Thuvakkam organized an exposure visit on December 19, 2024, to Dharani Organic Farm, Ettivayal, with 18+ farmers to explore sustainable farming practices. Led by Mr. Jose Dhiliphan J, Associate - Community Development, the visit featured a session by Mr. Tharani Murugesan, Director of Tharani Natural Farming Farm, on the benefits of organic farming, seed formation, and the conservation of traditional seeds. Farmers toured the farm to learn about naturally cultivated plants and sustainable techniques. The visit also included an introduction to livestock farming and the preparation of eco-friendly solutions like Panchakavya and Amrithakaraisal insect repellent, using livestock by-products. Bee populations have been declining globally over recent decades due to habitat loss, intensive farming practices, changes in weather patterns and the excessive use of agrochemicals such as pesticides. This in turn poses a threat to a variety of plants critical to human well-being and livelihoods. Organic farming can help to halt decline of bees take action now & save our planet.

Being a smallholder may help endeavors in farming become more sustainable - not to mention, help rural areas strengthen in abundance. While the land being farmed on might be much smaller than a traditional farm, there is still a lot we can learn today about the practice. The biggest aspect in my opinion, however, is getting more people around the world on board with it in the first place when there are some major issues that could come to light regarding the safety of one's crops. With smallholding comes potential downsides, such as wild animals coming in and wreaking havoc on the foods you've been working so hard to grow and keep healthy. #Smallholders #SustainableFarming #Crops #Food #Agriculture
