It's clear from the data that food recovery is vital to solving the wasted food problem and food insecurity. So why does so much edible food get tossed in the landfill, instead of being donated? Every sector of the food industry faces challenges to donation. For #HungerActionMonth, our latest blog post takes a closer look at those challenges and how to address them through measurement and data, as well as industry collaboration. #FoodInsecurity #FoodSystems #FoodRecovery #Sustainability https://lnkd.in/eeS2Cfji

I recently spoke with Food Tank about the critical issue of wasted food and how businesses must take a vital role in reducing it.👇 The food industry faces 1 significant barrier when it comes to donating surplus food - a misconception about legal liabilities. 💥 We're here to bust that myth! At Zero Waste Strategies, we help clients navigate food donation laws and ensure they’re informed about the IRS tax incentives they’re entitled to. With the passage of the 1996 Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act and the 2023 Food Donation Improvement Act, businesses are legally protected when donating in good faith. 🤝 ZWS helps alleviate these concerns by providing guidance on safe donation practices and connecting businesses with local nonprofits that redistribute food to those in need. Tackling wasted food is a huge passion of mine and I remain committed to empowering our business clients to make sustainable changes to benefit the community and the bottom line. 💰 Through our detailed waste audits and building assessments, we can identify key opportunities for waste reduction, employee empowerment, and green marketing strategies. 🥳 The New Year is almost here! If your company is ready to address waste reduction, please contact us! ☎️ 512-693-7677 🛜 0waste.org 🔗 Read the full article here - https://lnkd.in/ggRQ5uSi #ZeroWaste #FoodDonation #WasteReduction #Sustainability #TaxIncentives #FoodWaste #CircularEconomy

What Are Food Recovery Organizations (FROs)? Food recovery groups are like hidden helpers in the battle against hunger and wasted food. They work hard to gather extra food from places like grocery stores, restaurants, and other sources, and then give it to people who require it. By saving good food that would otherwise be thrown away, they help fight hunger and also lessen the harm to the environment caused by wasted food. These groups are very important for making communities stronger and more sustainable. They bring together businesses, charities, and volunteers to create a support system that helps everyone. How Can You Help Food Recovery Groups? 1. Give money: Support them by giving money to cover their expenses and reach more people. 2. Help out: Volunteer by sorting food, packing boxes, or delivering meals to those who need them. 3. Share their message: Post about their work on social media and encourage others to join in. 4. Reduce food waste at home: Plan your meals, store food correctly, and compost leftover food. Let's join forces to build a fairer and more sustainable food system. #foodrecovery #sustainability #foodwaste #hungerrelief #socialimpact

Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation is matching the first $250,000 donated online to ACCFB by community members like you, so double your impact with a matched gift today: https://bit.ly/3ZJCVFS How much we raise before the end of the year determines just how much we can do in 2025. In addition to providing an estimated 60 million pounds of food in 2025, here's a few of the other things we plan to do: 🥕 Expand our food recovery efforts to ensure high-quality surplus food from local farmers and grocery stores lands on the tables of people in our community instead of in landfills 🍊 Improve community health through our innovative Food as Medicine program supporting patients with chronic conditions that benefit from fresh, organic produce and meals tailored to individual needs 🌱 Invest in local food systems by partnering with BIPOC farmers, food distributors, local businesses and more to support the local economy, reduce our environmental impact, and provide more fresh food to our community 📣 Advocate for food justice by engaging further in community organizing to fight for policies addressing the root causes of hunger

Did you know that 33% of all food produced globally is lost or wasted every year, and that 8% of all greenhouse gas emissions each year are due to food loss and waste? 👎 To combat food waste, we've joined WRAP's Courtauld Commitment 2030 initiative to reduce waste and emissions by one-fifth. We're working closely with WRAP to cut waste throughout our supply chain and in the home. At Quorn, we started to collect food waste data in 2019. By the end of 2023, we achieved a 32% reduction of food waste and all our food waste is now sent to anaerobic digestion to make renewable energy! We have also worked with likeminded partners such as FoodCycle, FareShare UK, and The Bread and Butter Thing to combat food waste and support communities. #sustainability #foodwaste
In 2023, we rescued 239 tonnes of food from going in the bin. That's equivalent to the weight of: 🐘 84 elephants 🚗 116 cars 🥑 3,107,000 avocados 🐳 A blue whale (and then some) 🔔 17 Big Ben bells 🗽 The Statue of Liberty 🚌 24 school buses We turn food waste into nutritious and delicious 3-course meals for communities in need across the UK. We are so proud of what we have achieved so far and our goal is to expand even further to save more food and reach more people. For this week only, thanks to the Big Give, any donation made to FoodCycle will be matched. This means that when you contribute to our mission of ending food waste, both your donation and its impact will be doubled. Thank you so much ❤️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eRixqH9c #TheBigGive #FoodCycle #FoodWaste #EndFoodWaste #BigGiveGreenMatchFund #NoMorefoodWaste #ClimateChange #EarthDay
