Though promotional spend was up 2.8% compared to last year, it only represented 2.9% of the $534.9 million mobile handle compared to the 4.2% of the $364.3 million wagered digitally in August 2023. Some of that can be attributed to fewer mobile operators in the marketplace as there are 14 sportsbooks taking bets now compared to 18 last year. #GamblingTrends #OhioGambling #SportsBetting

BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook & Casino are set to launch citywide operations that will drastically change the mobile sports betting landscape in Washington D.C. The two platforms will expand their services across the entire District following an extension of the current restriction which limits BetMGM’s operations within the two-block radius of Nationals Park. By July 15, 2024, Caesars Sportsbook is also expected to go live in all parts of the city. This comes after a recent resolution by DC Council to create a more competitive market for mobile sports betting. An amendment proposed by council member Kenyan McDuffie as part of the fiscal 2025 budget seeks to allow multiple operators into the market thus ending FanDuel’s monopoly. The move is projected to promote competition which may generate millions of additional annual revenue for the city. It operates under the sports wagering license of Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, positioning itself as an online “skin” in the Garden State. According to information gleaned from the sportsbook’s website, state gambling regulators mandate two additional soft play days on Monday, April 1, and Tuesday, April 2, as part of the launch process. Prime Sportsbook, which is already operational in Ohio, also has plans to extend its reach to Kentucky with an online sportsbook product. While joining an already saturated market, Prime Sportsbook aims to provide a distinctive betting experience. The company’s executive chairman, Joe Brennan Jr., emphasized their willingness to accept bets from “sharp” bettors, offer reduced vig, and accommodate significant wagers, a departure from certain practices observed among established operators.
