Today is International Men’s Day. Many of our doctors who identify as male find it challenging to be seen as vulnerable and feel that they should be able to manage their own health. However there is strength in reaching out for help and preventatively managing your own well-being. Everyone needs support and the confidential, independent and holistic care of a GP. Having an established relationship with a trusted GP is valuable. Even just one preventative visit is a great way to prioritise your health so that you can continue to practice medicine and be there for your loved ones in the future. The DHASWA Drs for Drs list can help you get started, and our DHASWA 24/7 advice line is always here for support if you have any concerns. Don’t hesitate to reach out to those around you. Maximise your well-being and burnout prevention by considering exercise with friends, catch up coffee dates, or dinner to debrief and share, and look after yourself too. Happy International Men’s Day to our doctors and medical students 💙🧡 #InternationalMensDay #MensHealth #HealthAwareness #MensWellbeing #MentalHealthMatters #PhysicalHealth #MensHealthTips #GPAdvice #HealthSupport #PreventativeCare #HealthyMen #MensFitness #WellbeingWarrior #HealthCheck #LiveWell #ManUpForHealth #GetChecked #MensHealthMonth #DoctorAdvice #HealthJourney #StayHealthy #MenCareToo #GPMatters #HealthForLife #WellnessJourney #HealthyChoices

Hi everyone! I along with my team (Nandini Mudgil , Pranav Lokhande , Pranchal Sood and Varsha Yadav), recently presented a skit for our PEV (113) course assessment 1 on a topic -" Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being. " In today's world, healthcare must evolve to focus not only on treating diseases but on preventing them before they become life-threatening. Our recent skit brought this concept to life, demonstrating how systems designed around prevention and early intervention can make all the difference in maintaining physical and mental well-being. Skit Summary📜 Through relatable stories, we portrayed characters dealing with everyday health challenges. One example was Pranav, who felt healthy and skipped routine checkups. However, during a standard health exam, he discovered he was at risk of developing diabetes. This scenario emphasizes the importance of regular screenings to catch issues early, even when you feel fine. On the mental health front, Varsha struggled quietly with stress, feeling overwhelmed by college pressures. With the timely intervention and support of her friends, she sought help, highlighting that early action and a strong support system can be life-changing when it comes to mental health. ► Key takeaways: Prioritize prevention: Routine health checkups can detect issues early before they escalate. Mental well-being matters: Don’t hesitate to seek support when feeling overwhelmed. You don’t have to face it alone. Act early: Timely intervention can save lives and lead to better long-term health outcomes. Together, we can create a culture where health is about maintaining wellness, not just treating illness. Let’s continue advocating for healthcare systems that focus on both prevention and intervention, ensuring a healthier, happier future for all. #PreventiveHealthcare #MentalHealthAwareness #EarlyIntervention #HealthcareReform #WellBeing #HealthIsWealth #SupportSystem #PhysicalAndMentalHealth

Why do doctors find it so hard to ask for help? I'm one of many coaches here on LI offering support to medical professionals - and clients do find us...but I know there are many more who don't feel they can reach out. These comments quoted in an article about GP suicide, reveal some of the issues: ‘I felt a failure and I felt I was letting my family down, letting my patients down and letting my colleagues down...' 'Being a doctor [is] so much a part of you that when you don’t feel you’re doing it well you feel worthless.’ 'I needed to be the last one standing.' When you think how you feel means something significant about your worth, it's hard to ask for help. But here are some facts that these people couldn't see from their place of overwhelm: > When you can't go on effectively, and you stop, you are taking a powerful step towards wellness. For yourself, for your team, for your family. No one benefits from your struggle. You are not letting them down. > Being a doctor is NOT who you are. It is a role. I am very aware that it often doesn't feel that way, but seeing this for yourself is life-changing. Your worth is not dependent on your job. > No one is indespensable. You don't have to go on just because it is physically possible. As I said to a client once who told me 'I wish I could just have a nervous breakdown...' - There is definitely an easier way. If you could speak to someone who needs support and feels they can't ask, what would you say? They might just be reading this. #NHSstress #Overwhelm #medicalprofessionals

Though it falls within a GP's duties to safeguard the well-being of their patients, they may occasionally overlook their own needs. Yet, your own well-being is crucial not only for your personal life but also for the standard of care you offer your patients.
