Shotcrete as a solution to a wide range of construction problems. Since 1995, Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore has been working on expanding the underground rail and road transport systems. The development has largely relied on the use of Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL), which has been a key engineering solution to the many challenges typically encountered in tunneling projects within an urban environment. Odd and unplanned cavities in the framing of an exterior assembly can cause constructive thermal bridges. This is unfortunately more common than you'd think, when the insulators are unable to easily install the insulation fill all the gaps. This video illustrates an example from one of Emu's projects, where the roof framing called for sistered I-joists. If overlooked, this uninsulated gap would have left a "highway" open for the heat to escape, exposing building occupants to mold and condensation.
