Suing to stop timber harvests from state-managed forests is counter to efforts to reduce greenhouse gases from entering into the air we breathe. Not managing our forests runs counter to preventing the buildup of debris which fuels raging wildfires. Harvesting trees which can be converted to lumber, paper towel and to thousands of products we use each day, is the first step in creating healthy forests. Harvesting, thinning and replanting are proven ways to mitigate wildfires which pump millions of tons of choking smoke, airborne ash and CO2 into our atmosphere. Not ever older tree is a majestic fir, cedar or redwood.. There are in special forest and groves where they are set aside—-rightly so. There are other public lands where older trees should be logged and sent to mills which cut the 2x4, plywood and structural beams. New forests generate oxygen and clean drinking quality we need. They also create jobs, revenues for our public schools, colleges and universities, and, rural communities. Harvesting in accordance with our state laws and forest practices regulations is an IMPORTANT management option to maintain. These lawsuits should be dropped.

MESSAGE TO BC GOVERNMENT: YOU HAVE MADE THE BC FOREST INDUSTRY “UNINVESTABLE” 😥 "When you add in the past four years of ongoing BC forest policy changes, which include: old growth deferrals, landscape plans, tenure transfers to First Nations, protecting 30 per cent of lands by 2030, log export restrictions and fees, proposed Land Act changes, cutting permits no longer a mandatory contract but a discretionary one between government and licensees restricting compensation, etc. with almost no input from industry, it creates massive uncertainty for investors. Add in a failing BC Timber Sales program, delays in issuing cutting permits and increasing wildfires and you have a perfect storm, leading to a loss of industry investment and credibility with the current government. Over the last few decades, an increasing handicap for the forest industry in BC has been operating on public timberlands that are managed and influenced by politics." https://lnkd.in/gpheJPyA

A long but useful read on the value of our soils
Director for Scotland, Food, Farming and Countryside Commission- kirsty.tait@ffcc.co.uk- Long form here/ short form here- @kirstymtait.bsky.social
An integral recommendation from Prof Lorna Dawson, CBE, FRSE, FRSA in her blog on #Soil if we are to halt the loss and harm in #Scotland ‘The Scottish Government should bring forward legislative proposals that reflect the proposed EU Soil Monitoring Law and Nature Restoration Law by introducing a statutory duty to protect and monitor soil, creating mandatory targets for restoration of drained peatland soils and reassessing contaminated land and soil sealing policy. The legislation could build upon previous work undertaken and recent work on monitoring by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee and the James Hutton Institute.’

Maintaining a healthy environment is crucial, and soil conservation is significant in farm and ranch management practices. Did you know that the Dust Bowl was the starting point for this? From crop rotation to windbreaks, practices have come a long way since the 1930's. Land Broker Co-op has an informative blog post presents the history and current soil conservation efforts. Past time to get real. We have to have policies that are based on sustainable use not on simply moving unsustainable water use from one place to another. "The purpose of the 1980 Groundwater Management Act, which contains the assured water supply requirement, was not to get rid of farming or to convert farmland to urban uses — “it was to control over pumping of groundwater, to stop groundwater mining,” Ferris said at the water policy council meeting." Painfully obvious. It was a ponzi scheme on a grand scale, and that it sucked in so many politicians is scary. The notion that you can have a wise water policy by diverting ground water from one area (where it is often unsustainably) to another to fuel unsustainable growth is ludicrous. All of this political debate took place without any reference to State and Federal documentation that we are widely and significantly already using our ground water unsustainably to the point in many cases aquifers are collapsing. Citizens need to push back or people are going to lose the value of their homes and other properties because without water existing structures will be worthless. - Friends of the Sonoran Desert shared https://lnkd.in/gBTAZn99

Got #Water? How critical is water to #landvalues? Massivley important!!! “…[A]nalysis showed San Joaquin Valley vineyards and nut tree orchards had declined in value by 25% to 50% within the previous eight months. Since March, almond orchards without reliable surface water in the valley have lost more than half their value, according to ASFMRA’s figures. In parts of Tulare County, Gatzman said, some pistachio orchards have sold this year for a quarter of what they were worth last year.” If you need water, you need it your way!
