Pleased to share that we featured in a recent @USAID article, published in June, that highlights the urgent need for tailored support to help refugee youth access higher education. "Refugee youth require specific Guidance to access higher education opportunities." - Ben Webster, Mosaik Education Our student-led Guidance Programme workings alongside young refugees, supporting them to make progress on their educational journey. Tapping into the power of peer support, refugees participate in workshops facilitated by Mosaik Alumni - graduates who’ve been through the programme and have faced similar challenges. This unique approach allows them to share experiences, resources, and strategies for success. “Mosaik Education provides guidance services in Jordan, Lebanon, Uganda, and Egypt using a student-led model that helps refugees navigate the range of online courses and scholarship opportunities. This approach emphasises the important role that higher education institutions play in recruiting and integrating refugees on campus. It ensures that scholarship programs are both accessible and effective for refugee students.” Explore the full @USAID article to learn more about the challenges and opportunities involved in expanding higher education access for refugee youth: https://buff.ly/3SQRVyO #Leadership #MosaikAlumni #MosaikEducation #RightToEducation #EducationForAll #HigherEducation #Education #Learning #DisplacedPersons #RefugeeForum #RefugeeEducation

🌍 Advocating for Change: Empowering Cameroonian Refugees in Nigeria 🌟 Before 2019, Cameroonian refugees in Nigeria faced a bleak reality - access to tertiary education seemed like an unattainable dream. But today, thanks to dedicated advocacy efforts, we've seen a remarkable transformation in their educational opportunities. I'm Ayuk Peterkings Ayuk, and I'm proud to have played a part in this journey of change. By organizing a crucial meeting with the country representative of UNHCR Nigeria, we sparked the beginning of a new era for Cameroonian refugees. It was during this meeting that the doors to tertiary education and scholarship opportunities swung open for them. I vividly remember the discussions with Caritas, who initially limited their support to high school education. Through perseverance and a shared vision for a better future, we pushed the boundaries and expanded support to include tertiary education. Today, hundreds of Cameroonian refugees have access to scholarships like DAFFI and UNICORE, paving the way for a brighter tomorrow. As we celebrate the success stories of those who have graduated and those currently pursuing their dreams, I'm filled with hope for what lies ahead. Just recently, I had the privilege of assisting students with their applications for the UNICORE scholarship 2024, and I'm eagerly awaiting positive outcomes. But our journey doesn't end here. We must continue to champion initiatives like the 15 by 30 strategy, ensuring that by 2030, at least 15% of refugees worldwide have access to tertiary education. Together, let's keep striving for a world where education knows no boundaries and every individual has the opportunity to thrive. #RefugeeEmpowerment #EducationForAll #15by30Strategy #UNHCR #UNICORE #DAFFIscholarship #CameroonianRefugees #Nigeria 🌟📚

Educational institutions, alongside civil society, can play a crucial role in expanding legal migration channels by supporting refugee students to study at their institutions. Several successful international examples pave the way to strengthening these efforts also in the Netherlands. On November 7-8, we are organizing the Symposium on Education Pathways to lay the groundwork for establishing complementary education pathways to the Netherlands for refugee students. Through workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions, the event will connect educators, civil society, migration experts, refugees, and more to: 👉 Share and address knowledge gaps. 👉 Leverage insights and expertise. 👉 Develop comprehensive strategies that promote and support the right and access to education for refugees. Are you a professional in higher education, civil society, migration, governmental institutions, or policy, or have experience with education pathways abroad? We invite you to participate and think along with us in shaping the current migration landscape via https://lnkd.in/d5xK5wCu

We believe access to education is a fundamental human right. But when does access to higher education become a priority during a humanitarian crisis? This is a question we get asked a lot, ‘humanitarian work’ often focuses on basic needs, shelter, food, water. However, from our experience, and from perspectives of our students, getting back to studying is a priority earlier than you might think. Our Guidance Programme provides essential support, including scholarship information and career advice, guiding young refugees on their journey to achieving their educational aspirations. And are adapting it so it can be deployed in different contexts - including humanitarian crises. Crucially, our programme guides, mentors and facilitators are all alumni of Mosaik who were once refugees themselves – who better to understand the challenges faced by refugee students than someone with firsthand experience who’s been there? Become a champion this #WorldHumanitarianDay and #ActForHumanity by supporting our work and sharing this message! #GlobalCitizenship #GlobalCommunity #DiversityAndInclusion #CulturalCelebration #MosaikAlumni #Inspiration #RefugeeDreams #SupportOpportunity

🌍 Education is a fundamental right, yet access remains a challenge for refugees from Ukraine. Did you know... 🚸 Households with a child with a disability more often report at least one child is not enrolled in school — 26% vs 6% in households without. 👩🏫 For refugees from Ukraine, a lack of recognition of qualifications in the host country presents a barrier to finding employment. 🗣️ Language remains a barrier to employment, though nearly half of adult respondents are taking courses. Check out our latest regional analysis here on Access to Education for Refugees from Ukraine. Let’s support and raise awareness for a future where everyone has access to education and opportunity, no matter their background or circumstances. 💙 https://lnkd.in/eJpCFq4g

Education - a lifeline for refugees. On #WorldRefugeeDay I still find hope in #Education When refugees flee, their lives are disrupted, future plans halted and for children - learning stops! The statistics should shock us! Of the 117.3 million displaced population in the world, 40% are children under 18. Half of them are #OutofSchool especially girls. The higher the education ladder, the steeper the drop-off in numbers. However #Inclusive education in an opportunity for all. ✅ It ensures peace, prosperity and wellbeing = social cohesion and tolerance ✅ If refugee children are educated in national systems, it creates pathways for recognised qualifications and employment = boosting host economies ✅ It brings new investments in the form of new classrooms and learning materials and teachers. As crises become more protracted, we need; ✅ fully inclusive education systems ✅predictable and accelerated multi-year financial support ✅gender-responsive education planning ✅coordinated multi- stakeholder exchange of best practices But above all #Peace #RaiseYourHand

Education in Africa is not just a pathway to personal growth; it is the cornerstone of our continent's future. As a passionate educator, I believe that education holds the key to unlocking the vast potential within our communities. It empowers individuals, fosters innovation, and drives economic development. In the face of many economic challenges, education becomes a beacon of hope, offering solutions and fostering unity. By promoting Pan-African languages and integrating cultural values into our educational systems, we can create a more inclusive and resilient society that fosters cultural pride and self-esteem. Investing in education means investing in our youth, who are the leaders of today and tomorrow. It is through education that we can address social inequalities, improve health outcomes, and build sustainable communities. Let us embrace the transformative power of education to shape a brighter, more prosperous Africa. From a Mandelian point of view, education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change Africa. 🌍🔥💯❤️✍🏿 #Ubuntu #Education Kijika the Pen-trovert ✍🏿🪶📖

On United Nations Day, Times Higher Education wants to recognise the fantastic work that the United Nations does around the world, and the core mission of peace, justice and sustainability that it stands for. A key part of this work was the recognition, in the 1951 Convention, of the need to support refugees and displaced peoples around the world. At Times Higher Education we are working with UNHCR on a global mapping study of higher education for refugees. This includes a survey asking universities about scholarships, infrastructure, policies and available data on refugee access to higher education. We want to ensure we accurately capture and reflect the great work of universities in your network. You can find the link to the survey (available in seven languages) as well as information about the initiative here: https://bit.ly/4cc7U1T Each One, Take One (EOTO): Soon to be launched, EOTO is a global solidarity movement to provide universities with the tools, networks and support they need to ensure refugees join and participate fully on campus, rebuild their lives through education, and develop essential skills and knowledge, wherever they are. Participating in the mapping is an important first step for institutions to engage in this initiative. UNHCR is hosting three webinars covering different regions to explain the importance of participating in the mapping survey and to introduce EOTO. The webinars will take place on November 6th, 13th and 14th and will be made available in multiple languages. Those who would like to attend can register for a webinar here: https://bit.ly/4eRazzz #15by30 #RefugeeHigherEducation #EachOneTakeOne #timeshighereducation #USAIDHigherEducationLearningNetwork
