When I style a room, I use the technique of ‘layering’. Within this technique, the first layer typically involves setting the foundation with wall treatments, ie: paint or wallpaper. Next, I work out the placement of the larger furniture pieces, such as sofas, chairs and sideboards to establish the room's main structure. Once these are in position, I add a third layer with the smaller items, like coffee and side tables. These not only provide additional composition for the space , but set up natural points for artworks and mirrors, which are a fourth layer. The final layer that brings the room to life are plants, lamps, vases and memorabilia to fill in the gaps and create interesting focal points. Elements like rugs, cushions, throws, and curtains then add tactile contrast, as well as visual depth. The end result is beautifully layered design. #donnawhiteinteriors #donnawhite #nzdesign #nzinteriordesign #interiordesign #aucklanddesign #aucklandinteriordesign #topnzdesigner #topnzinteriordesigner #sustainable #inchbald #interiordesigninspiration #interiordesignideas #designer #renovation #homerenovation #design #interiors #homedecor #nzmade #auckland #newzealand #nz #nzstyle #exterior #interior #colour #textile #jamesdunlop #layering #sheen

60-30-10 Rule The rule of 60 - 30 - 10 is a design principle that helps you create a balanced and harmonious color scheme in a space. It involves dividing the colors into three proportions: 60% for the dominant color, 30% for the secondary color, and 10% for the accent color. The dominant color sets the tone of the space and covers the majority of the surfaces, such as walls, floors, and large furniture. The secondary color supports the dominant color and adds contrast and interest, such as window treatments, accent chairs, and bed linens. The accent color highlights specific features and adds a pop of color, such as pillows, accessories, and artwork. Did you know about it? Sometimes it's difficult to find the perfect piece to fit into a space and to complement existing furniture. So this is where the fun begins! This is my passion and something I truly I love doing. If I can’t find something already made, then I set about designing it. As often is the case, initial concepts morph into something rather different. In this instance, when we spoke to the bespoke joiner, he suggested using different coloured wood veneers cut in varying shapes to give the illusion of an angled front to the cabinet. This was not only cost saving advice, but it will look stunning too. This is why I always listen to the experts. As soon as it the cabinet is finished, I will photograph it and post an image, of yet another exciting project. #donnawhiteinteriors #donnawhite #nzdesign #nzinteriordesign #interiordesign #aucklanddesign #aucklandinteriordesign #topnzdesigner #topnzinteriordesigner #sustainable #inchbald #interiordesigninspiration #interiordesignideas #designer #renovation #homerenovation #design #interiors #homedecor #nzmade #auckland #newzealand #nz #nzstyle #exterior #interior #colour

A #stairlanding is a flat surface or platform at the top or bottom of a staircase, or between flights of stairs. It's a transitional space that provides a safe and comfortable area to pause, turn, or change direction while using the stairs. Stair landings are often overlooked as a design opportunity, but they can be transformed into functional and stylish spaces that enhance the overall flow and feel of your space. Elevate Your Stair Landing by adding 1. #ConsoleTable: Add a stylish console table to create a convenient spot for placing keys, mail, or decorative items. 2. #Bench or Storage Ottoman: Incorporate a bench or storage ottoman to provide a cozy seating area and additional storage. 3. #DecorativeLighting: Install decorative lighting, such as a chandelier or sconces, to add ambiance and create a warm welcome. 4. #Artwork or #Mirrors: Hang artwork or mirrors to add visual interest and create the illusion of a larger space. 5. #Plants or Greenery: Bring in some greenery, like potted plants or a living wall, to add a touch of nature and freshness. 6. Bookshelf or #Étagère: Install a bookshelf or étagère to display favorite books, decorative objects, or personal treasures. #interior #furnishing

Design Tips You Need To Know: Define your vision: There are so many options to choose from when it comes to selecting decorative materials. Try to have a clear vision of what you want the overall look and feel of a space to be before you start. Start with neutrals: If you’re going for a bright and fresh vibe, pull some solid whites, light greys and cool beiges. They are good building blocks for selecting other colors and patterns to add in. Add texture, color and pattern: Layer, layer, and layer! That’s what makes a room unique and special. Add a wow element: I always try to incorporate something edgy and unexpected. Try adding oversized light fixtures, accent walls, a sculptural piece of furniture (which may or may not be comfortable!), bold patterns and chunky textures to you designs. #interiormodern #interiordesign #remodel #remodeling #luxuryinteriordesign #classicdesign #luxuryhomedesign #homedesigns #designinteriors #interiorhomedesign #luxuryhousedesign #classicinteriordesign #designluxury #designclassics #luxuryinteriordesigners #interiordesignfirm #luxuryhomedecor #luxuryinterior #homedesign #interiordesigners #interiorsdesign #designerhome #moderninteriors #interiordesignstudio #interiordesignart #homeinteriorsdesign #designmyhome #homesdesign #lhi #lindahoffmaninteriors

Using wallpaper in small spaces can add a lot of personality and style. Opt for bold patterns to make the room feel vibrant, or choose light-colored, subtle designs to make the space feel larger and more open. An accent wall with wallpaper will create a great focal point without overwhelming the room. Vertical stripes make ceilings appear higher, while textured wallpapers add depth and sophistication. Mirrored or metallic finishes reflect light and add a touch of glam. For a calming effect, nature-inspired designs like florals and botanicals work beautifully. Wallpaper has the ability to transform small spaces into stylish, engaging areas. My biggest inspiration comes from the lines and patterns we find in nature. Many lines are used in interior design, from straight, curved, and dotted lines to zig-zag lines to form patterns and shapes. Lines connect two dots and evoke various moods based on their texture, direction, look, and weight. Interestingly, patterns are more than just shapes and designs found on decorations, clothing, and furniture. Pattern recognition is a fundamental element of the human brain and can be applied to visual images, sound, and smell. #interiordesign #interiors #interiordecor #interiordesigner #interiorstyling #HomeDecor2024 #interiorquotes #ınstagood #elementsofdesign #livingroom #furnituredesign #realestate #style #kitchendesign #architect #designinspiration #interiordecorating #vintage #renovation #luxuryhomes #kitchen #interiorinspiration #photography #interiorinspo #house #construction #luxurylifestyle #homeinspo #linesofdesign #instahome
