Principal Interior Designer at Donna White Interior Design

When I style a room, I use the technique of ‘layering’. Within this technique, the first layer typically involves setting the foundation with wall treatments, ie: paint or wallpaper. Next, I work out the placement of the larger furniture pieces, such as sofas, chairs and sideboards to establish the room's main structure. Once these are in position, I add a third layer with the smaller items, like coffee and side tables. These not only provide additional composition for the space , but set up natural points for artworks and mirrors, which are a fourth layer. The final layer that brings the room to life are plants, lamps, vases and memorabilia to fill in the gaps and create interesting focal points. Elements like rugs, cushions, throws, and curtains then add tactile contrast, as well as visual depth. The end result is beautifully layered design. #donnawhiteinteriors #donnawhite #nzdesign #nzinteriordesign #interiordesign #aucklanddesign #aucklandinteriordesign #topnzdesigner #topnzinteriordesigner #sustainable #inchbald #interiordesigninspiration #interiordesignideas #designer #renovation #homerenovation #design #interiors #homedecor #nzmade #auckland #newzealand #nz #nzstyle #exterior #interior #colour #textile #jamesdunlop #layering #sheen
