It’s great to see Bayer and Microsoft teaming up to bring AI into agriculture in such a practical way. Building AI models that tackle real issues like crop protection and agronomy could make a real difference for farmers and the industry as a whole. I’m excited to see how these tools help make farming smarter and more sustainable—innovations like this show just how much potential there is when tech meets agriculture! https://lnkd.in/exMPtXGE

Here in Chicago for #MSIgnite and looking forward to sharing our adapted #AI model for agriculture. Our first is called E.L.Y. Crop Protection and I will share how it advanced through Bayer’s partnership with Microsoft. Off-the-shelf LLMs perform many tasks well, but to be a relaible technology companion to those who serve farmers, the models must be adapted and specialized for the ag domain. With thousands of crop protection options available, advisors working with farmers must be able to make informed recommendations that protect crops while ensuring environmental sustainability. Mainstream LLMs don’t cut it. We need Adapted AI models specialized for agriculture and vetted by experts. I am here to launch this model and invite others to join us in the mission to improve access to applied agronomy expertise and build with us! #GENAI4AG

Dan’s reflections got me thinking about a story I heard a few months ago. Someone asked Dan Kurdys, MBA (below) about our work training generative AI models to accurately respond to very specific questions about agronomy and agricultural products. They were comparing off-the-shelf models like ChatGPT to incredibly smart (and I suppose infinitely resourceful) teenagers. This person asked if we are "sending those teenagers to college." Dan replied, "Even better ... we're sending them to the farm." So starting with Microsoft Cloud, its embedded AI capabilities, publicly available agricultural data, and select proprietary data, we "sent the model to the farm," so to speak. We fed it volumes of crop protection labels and safety data sheets, and we trained the model on thousands of real-world questions about Bayer's crop protection products to make sure it understands the many questions crop advisors might receive from farmers. The result is what's being discussed onstage this week at #MSIgnite in Chicago. It's already making headlines (check comments) and I especially look forward to seeing how these types of advancements will uplift the ag industry, the broader agrifood sector, and enable all of us to better serve farmers around the world. Congratulations to the teams at Bayer and Microsoft who brought our first adapted AI model to market! #MSIgnite #AgInnovation #AI #genai

We might be called a legacy agriculture but at Bayer | Crop Science there are some cool things happening in the world of generative AI and agriculture - we are working to bring agronomy and the power of GenAI together to helps solve real problems! WSJ wrote a great piece on a recent announcement of Bayer partnering with Microsoft to develop and distribute an AI model to help answer questions about ingredients in an insecticide or whether a product could be applied to cotton, for example. #ELYAgIntelligence

What’s your take on #AI in the agriculture sector? In our recently published Year-in-Review Magazine, we explored Synnefa's vision for #farmers and the agricultural sector, where AI paves the way for farming to become a profitable and sustainable endeavor for all. Taita Ngetich, Synnefa’s CEO, shared his perspective on how AI will transform farming practices in the coming years: "One of the biggest changes will come through AI-powered agronomy advisory services." Currently, many farmers lack access to expert agronomic advice or cannot afford to hire professionals. AI is set to bridge this gap: 📌 It will deliver affordable, personalized recommendations directly to farmers via apps, SMS, and other user-friendly tools. 📌 It will enable smarter decision-making by analyzing real-time data on weather, soil, and crops. What's your take on AI’s role in agriculture?
