Day 13: GBV and Climate Change The link between climate change and gender-based violence (GBV) is undeniable, especially for the elderly and women who are disproportionately affected. Climate-related disasters displace communities, disrupt livelihoods, and often lead to unsafe environments, heightening the risks of GBV. In these challenging times, it is crucial to: Advocate for inclusive climate policies that address the unique vulnerabilities of women and elderly individuals. Collaborate with environmental organizations to create safer, sustainable, and resilient communities. Raise awareness about the intersection of climate-induced displacement and GBV, emphasizing prevention and protection measures. We are committed to creating safer spaces for all through education, community action, and advocacy. Together, we can champion environmental justice while ensuring that no one regardless of age or gender is left behind in the fight against GBV. #EnvironmentalJustice #GBVandClimateChange #donyajusticenetworkkenya #ClimateActionNow #EndGBV #SustainableFuture #GenderEquality #HumanRights #SafeCommunities #EmpowerChange #ClimateJustice #ProtectTheVulnerable #InclusiveAction #intersexkenyaeducationandsdvocacy

The term “environmental racism” refers to the inequities that place racialized and low-income communities at a higher risk of exposure to environmental hazards, such as pollution and climate change. This impacts those experiencing #homelessness, since it worsens their living conditions and health outcomes. Environmental racism disproportionately affects marginalized communities, placing their health, safety, and environment at risk due to unequal policies, industrial activities, and limited access to resources. Addressing this systemic issue is a crucial step toward equity and sustainability. Here are a few ways we can work together to reduce environmental racism in our communities: Raise Awareness: Educate yourself and others about the intersection of environmental issues and social justice. Share stories, host discussions, and amplify the voices of affected communities. Advocate for Policy Change: Support legislation that addresses inequities, protects vulnerable populations, and holds industries accountable for their environmental impact. Support Local Leaders: Engage with and support community leaders and organizations working on the frontlines of environmental justice. Their lived experiences and insights are invaluable in creating solutions. Invest in Green Spaces: Push for equitable access to clean air, water, and green infrastructure in all neighborhoods, particularly those historically neglected. Empower Youth: Create opportunities for young people to learn about sustainability, civic engagement, and climate justice, giving them the tools to lead the change. Environmental racism is a collective challenge that requires a collective response. By taking small yet intentional actions, we can create a more just and sustainable world. How are you addressing environmental racism in your community? Let’s exchange ideas and work toward solutions together. 🌎 #EnvironmentalRacism #ClimateJustice #SocialEquity #Sustainability #EnvironmentalJustice

Interesting data from the AAMC Center for Health Justice- The Center for Health Justice conducted a poll with a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults that asked their perspectives on the impact of #ClimateChange and actions that can be taken to address it. They found that most U.S. adults believe that climate change is a problem, that it will impact them and their families within their lifetime, and that the federal government is most responsible for reducing its impacts. Hispanic and Black adults express significantly higher concern about impacts on them and their families, compared with white adults. 🌍🚺 Today marks our 189th strike for women's climate justice! This Sunday, we're focusing on a critical issue: the lack of women-friendly shelters during climate disasters like cyclones. As climate change worsens these events, women face increased health risks without proper shelter. It's time for action. We demand compensation from the countries responsible for climate change. Women shouldn't bear the burden alone. Join us in raising our voices for justice and accountability. #WomenClimateJustice #DemandCompensation #ClimateActionNow
