One of the only constants in Downtown Concord, NC over the decades has been change. The Streetscape Project has given us the opportunity to embrace the future while also highlighting some of our city’s history that has been in plain sight all along, but often missed. The stone that sits at the intersection of Corban Ave and Union St is the original surveyor’s stone that marked the four squares of the City of Concord in 1796. During construction, this stone was moved and preserved and recently placed back and will continue to live as a reminder of where our city started. The carriage hooks on Union St, between Corban Ave and Barbrick Ave, have been in our curb-line since our city streets were filled with horse drawn carriages. In an effort to highlight this piece of our city’s history, we preserved the original hooks and added them back to our new curb-line along with decorative gold horseshoes. In Vancouver and Burnaby, building heights are typically measured in stories or levels, and the two terms can sometimes be confusing. Here's a breakdown: Levels usually refer to floors inside a building, including basements or mezzanines. Stories refer to above-ground floors. Earlier this week I visited a prayer. The Riverwalk. I am with both interest and frustration. Where's evidence of the investment? The lawful horticulture styling? I dislike the design given to the public via media. But am hopeful for the health of the land and the sea. I noticed the Haskell banner. Are you the winner? So, I went to the YWCA later. The steam room and swimming pool are part of healthing practices. Guess who? I ran right into Haskell, the construction company. Right next door. Took up a new office in town. How to feel? Excited and pleased. The way I see it is that the person who decided to repair the Riverwalk appropriately can occupy my building. The Riverwalk Tilt has been an amazing fraud, and I am upset. I couldn't receive a more astounded upwelling of emotion when I knew that the earth was landed and the river would take it. Furtherance, The BayWalk is evident fraud. Notice anything missing? Where's the stroll from Symphony Orchestra to the yoga park? Anyone else notice anything? I like Haskell and want to like them and like them there, right along the St. John's River amidst the labors. The hope is for appropriate style and architectural design for the healed Riverwalk and BayWalk areas. Do me this service. I really, really like the newer architecture design thought: stairs and concrete with preservation of the estate markers and accentuation of the existing horticultural refinement. The Crossings of Dawsonville is a multi-family apartment complex located 1/2-miles from North Georgia Premium Outlets in Dawson County, GA. The project consisted of nine structures combining the aesthetics of segmental block retaining walls, vegetated wire form slopes, and rock-faced, galvanized wire form walls. The entrance road to the development is supported on both sides by 40-ft, rock-faced galvanized wire form walls. A 52-ft wall constructed with the lower 1/3 as rock-faced galvanized and the remaining 2/3 as vegetated wire form slope surround the site detention pond. The remaining walls are dispersed across the challenging site with more than 125-ft of grade change.

Our Managing Director, Richard Page, was recently on a Made in Britain - official panel on 'The Benefits of Buying Local.' His words have been recorded in The Westmorland Gazette's article, 'Rising demand for sustainable Cumbrian quarried stone', where he explained that, "If you look at our roofing slates, they will last for more than 100 years. The beautiful diminishing course roof so characteristic of the Lake District, with large slates at the bottom of the roof becoming progressively smaller towards the ridge line, is also an early form of sustainability. Wonderful to see the next phase of PTE designed infil developments with 14 low energy council homes taking shape. Despite being challenging infil sites, the designs make use of our standardised housetypes, helping to manage costs and simplify construction - making this type of site more viable. As well as providing more council homes, the finished schemes will improve urban design and natural surveillance to the surrounding streets and green spaces. We know there is no one-size-fits-all solution to the housing crisis but we think this kind of repeatable intelligent infil is an important tool in the box. Providing more homes in already developed areas improves densities that help to support local services. Also, as I said in a talk I gave last week, make better use of the space you’ve got - and it’s another green field saved 🌳
At Aragon Close and Sackville Close, we are replacing existing garages and hard standing at each development with seven new two bedroom, low-carbon council homes, designed using Passivhaus principles. The homes will have very low energy use and heating costs, with thick highly insulated walls and gas-free heating. The developments will also provide car parking, landscaping, and cycle storage.
