This webinar showcases an exemplary Phius Zero project and has super helpful information from the architect, builder, and homeowner. The webinar shows the how and why of Phius Zero and demonstrates the health, energy independence, durability, and comfort benefits of Passive House construction, the gold standard for energy efficiency and durability. Kudos to the team! The home has striking similarities to the design for our first house, MiNet0-1, most notably the double-wall construction, negative HERS score (enough PV power for the house and some EV charging), batteries for resilience, Zehnder ERV for super healthy IAQ, and price at $500/ft2. MiNet0-1 will differ in being more modest (1500 vs 5000 ft2), and built without concrete, foam, or sheathing in order to substantially reduce the embodied carbon in the house. Dear Minister Husic, Your Ministerial Round Table meeting today in Melbourne presents a crucial opportunity to address the issue of scalability in advanced modular construction platforms in Australia. Currently, the concept of "prefabrication" remains a "Cottage Industry" in the country, lacking the scalability needed for significant growth to meet the diabolical shortfalls in affordable housing in Australia; prefabrication in dwellings carting them around on semi-trailers across the country is not the answer either new thinking is required in scalable solutions such as advanced modular in sustainable stored carbon materials such as utilizing the world's resources to solve the immediate crisis not a solution in decades away. Minister, it's important to note that advanced modular construction, particularly in Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), offers incredible designs and a speedy route to market implementation. Demonstrating the vast potential of renewable plantation forest trees transformed into CLT is vital for advancing this sector. One impactful step the Federal Government could take is to mandate that 50% of all surplus Federal Government land earmarked for residential use must be allocated for affordable housing. Emulating the successful model by the Mayor of London, where this approach has resulted in over 30,000 additional affordable dwellings, could significantly benefit the Australian housing landscape. With over 100,000 major CLT reference projects globally, our Thrive Alliance consortia members are ready to introduce scalability into the Australian market. This presents a unique opportunity for substantial GDP growth, especially considering the untapped potential of new renewable plantation forest resources in Australia. While approximately 30% of Australian renewable forest trees go to waste, Scandinavian and EU countries have shown how 100% utilization of this resource can lead to new industries and lucrative export markets worldwide.
