Planned Maintenance Towards Zero Failure Training Had completed 4 sessions of Planned Maintenance Towards Zero Failure training recently for ISMF, Wafer Fabrication (OnSemi). Some were new participants and some came as a refresher. Onsemi achieved the JIPM award in 1999 which proved to be a transformative initiative that significantly impacted their operational effectiveness. **Training Overview:** The Planned Maintenance training was structured to enhance their maintenance strategies, emphasizing proactive maintenance practices to optimize equipment performance, minimize downtime, and extend asset life. The training sessions covered various topics, including establishing preventive maintenance standards, equipment diagnostics, troubleshooting techniques, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the organization. **Performance Metrics and Achievements:** After years of implementing training, they have yielded impressive results, with multiple departments achieving a commendable 90% OEE rating. This achievement reflects their commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and maximizing equipment utilization. **Factors Contributing to Success:** Success in achieving high OEE scores can be attributed to several key factors, including: 1. **Focus on Continuous Improvement:** By integrating the principles learned during the training into their operations, they have demonstrated a commitment to continuously improving their maintenance practices and processes. 2. **Cultural Adaptation:** The organization successfully fostered a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation, creating an environment where employees are actively engaged in maintaining equipment reliability and performance. 3. **Recommendations and Future Outlook:** Building on their current success, investing in advanced maintenance technologies, and providing ongoing training and support to their maintenance teams. Continuous monitoring of performance metrics, feedback mechanisms, and periodic reviews of their technical team skill matrix will be essential to ensure long-term sustainability and further improvements in operational efficiency. **Conclusion:** Their success underscores the importance of investing in employee training, adopting best practices, and nurturing a culture that values proactive maintenance and optimization of assets. What impresses most is their L & D department commitment to send their staffs for training regularly to ensure that they attain the good level of skill and upskilling all their staffs to be subject matter experts to obtain long term sustainability. There are signs of weaknesses in some departments but with the leader focusing and staying focus on continuous improvement and upskilling, it will not be long these department rejoice their success.

Cutting the training budget first is a bad practice for organizations, especially in process and manufacturing industries where technical training is more crucial than management training. Technical skills are vital for ensuring safety, efficiency, and the smooth operation of equipment and processes. Without regular technical training, employees may fall behind in their ability to handle new technologies, troubleshoot issues, or maintain operational standards, leading to costly errors or downtime. While management training is important, technical expertise directly impacts daily operations, making it a higher priority in these industries. Neglecting this area can result in greater long-term risks and inefficiencies.
