In the wake of SHRM’s questionable and disheartening decision to remove Equity from their language (and likely subsequent strategic plan) - this graphic is worth a few words.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it references ‘inclusion,’ but the very same can be said about equity.
Equity is not a linear path.
Equity is not a quick win.
Equity is not a check the box.
Equity is not failing because of what ever gaslighting excuse you choose to spit for the day.
Equity and inclusion both take time, patience and commitment. Trial and error. Baby steps to success and sustainability, and require continuous evaluation.
I’m currently in the process of finalizing an RFP for equity strategy development and my heart feels lighter knowing that while these organizations that claim to live by certain values are shying away behind the guise of challenge due to change, there are real change-makers out there dedicated to truly impacting systemic inequities.
This work is hard. No doubt; however, being reactive and backing up is a whole word.
The journey towards becoming an inclusive organisation is not straight forward, but is so worth the effort to ensure all #DisabledPeople feel welcome in your business, as employees or customers. 💜👍
