Agrivoltaics, or the integrated use of farmland for both solar energy production and agriculture, could provide a huge step forward in the state’s clean energy transition. Through the IPA’s Illinois Shines Program, Community Solar projects can now achieve higher points for demonstrating commitment to “agrivoltaics”– the practice of agriculture on land designated for photovoltaics. By farming on community solar project land, viable agricultural land can still be used for its original purpose while also contributing to our clean energy transition.
