BE-STEMM 2024 (July 30 – Aug 1 at the Library & Archives Canada, Ottawa) is an opportunity for Black STEMM professionals, researchers and trainees to gather with their allies, to share their research and create connections. Sponsored by CIHR, NSERC, FRQ, Genome Canada, and several universities, BE-STEMM 2024 will feature research talks by more than 50 Black-identifying researchers, 4 keynote talks and a career fair, among many other opportunities for engagement. It is a unique opportunity for Black trainees and researchers to share their work and to meet mentors or collaborators. It is also a unique opportunity for institutions to meet potential new recruits! Registration is currently open for one more week and CBSN (Canadian Black Scientists network) is doing a final push for registrants. The conference website is https://lnkd.in/gTRppDsi Please share this conference information with your respective networks. As an ally of the Canadian Black Scientists network, I strongly encourage you to support this event by encouraging faculty members and their trainees to attend the conference - this is a unique opportunity for allies to show their support through action by attending the conference in person. PS: this message originally comes from Dr. Tamara Franz-Odendaal. I just changed a couple of words here and there.

Today, Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) proudly celebrates Indigenous People's Day! 🌎 Instituted in 1992 in Berkeley, CA, this day honors the rich heritage and contributions of Native American communities. We applaud the vital role Native American customs and knowledge have played in advancing STEM and deeply value the dedication of our Native American employees in delivering excellence to our customers. Last week, we appreciated the opportunity to participate in the AISES National Conference College and Career Fair. It is the largest event focusing on educational, professional, and workforce development for Indigenous peoples of North America and the Pacific Islands in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) studies and careers. We support the conference theme of Rivers of Resilience: Sustaining Indigenous Innovation, honor the contributions of Indigenous peoples, and recognize the importance of diversity in innovation. Together, we build a future that reflects the rich diversity of human knowledge and experience. CAREERS IN HISTORY The Careers in History print and video resources highlight the key skills that students develop when they study History and the career pathways they can pursue. This free-to-download suite is designed to help students and parents understand how studying History can lead to strong employment prospects, in-demand skills, personal growth and community well-being. We hope these resources help you inspire young people to continue studying History, or to foster their passion for this wonderful subject. They can be distributed at subject-selection events and careers fairs, posted up in History classrooms and staff rooms, or simply sent to a student who is talking with you about their subject choices. Please be sure to share these with your school or university careers counsellors. HTAV would like to acknowledge the support of the Victorian Government and the Department of Education. All schools, universities, history teachers’ associations and historical associations are welcome to provide their members and networks with the link to the resources. https://lnkd.in/gtXFnePF #teacher #teachers #teaching #TeacherLife #learning #school #schools #education #educational #educators #classroom #independentschools #history #schoolleaders #pedagogy #content #resources #careers #careerresources

Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie (middle) flanked by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation, Strategy and Administration (RISA), Prof Olalekan Asikhia and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Sunday Adewale and Dr Maria Adeyemi conducting a mock job interview for one of our graduating students. Each of the selected students faced real-life questions with no emotion allowed as their peers watched. We all later reviewed their performance. It was part of a larger program, Caleb Graduate Employability Fair, where we expose our products to the reality of the world of work. They are also going to interact with Chief Executive Officers of select organizations. Two lessons from this: 1. If you are an employer of labour looking for prepared hands, you should be thinking of products from Caleb University,Lagos. 2. If you are a parent seeking where your child can get quality education, or you are an individual looking for a good school, then start thinking about Caleb University Lagos. Want more answers? New chapter, time to spend time with my boys at the Edinburgh Science, sponsored by Baillie Gifford, The Scottish Government and The City of Edinburgh Council and Edina Trust and others. Brilliant exposure to #STEM: slime making, instrument workshops, lego challenge and more. Matti is only 3, too early to think of careers? I worked with so many businesses and so many thought that nursery was way too early to engage. Quite the opposite, this is the time to inspire young minds, they are curious and through play they learn and remember so much. According to the Climate Change Committee, they estimate up to 725,000 new jobs in low carbon solutions to be created by 2028 and there is an urgent need to recruit and train young people to deliver #netzero, also called the #netzeroworkforce. (https://lnkd.in/eDUWi2Qt) Attending careers fair in high schools is 'old school', so go further and engage in the beginning of their development, capture their imagination, invest in resource and time, and make those engagements accessible for everyone. Not a one-off, but rather on-going commitment. Plan the engagement with #essentialskills in mind. #developingyoungworkforce #futureleaders #netzeroskills #STEMskills #employmentskills #lowcarbonskills #greenskills
