Yesterday was World Wildlife Day. 🐢 👩 1 in 5 people around the world rely on wild species for income and food, while 2.4 billion people depend on wood fuel for cooking. 🦒 Cacti, seaweeds, giraffes, parrots, and oak trees are groups of species endangered. Currently there are one million species under threat. 💶 50,000 Wild Species Meet Needs of Billions Worldwide. Creating green spaces in cities and implementing sustainable urban planning, can indirectly benefit wildlife and contribute to their conservation. 📌What is the Status-Quo of the implementation of SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities? Stefan Weil, Chief Creative Officer and Co-Owner of Atelier Markgraph says: "Responsibility begins on your own doorstep and in your immediate neighborhood. It is therefore essential to work locally in order to achieve and contribute to global goals. A rethink is a great opportunity, also economically. Prospering into a new understanding. A new understanding in which people remember that they are part of nature. Full of joy and energy. Ecological goals can only be achieved through technological advances. For example, in our studio we call this ‘Luminous Green’. We launched the ‘Green City Club’ many years ago, very late in 2011 but unfortunately also much too early. Monaco Ocean Week concluded on Saturday, March 22.  Monaco Ocean week is an annual event that brings exchanges, initiatives and meetings for safeguarding of our oceans, it provides an occasion to discuss and promote sustainable practices that will contribute to the conservation of the ocean and marine life.   It’s an important occasion to highlight and explore different aspects of sustainability, including #BlueEconomy, which means the sustainable use of marine resources to promote economic, social, and environmental development. 🚀 NEVERMORE project boosting the city of Aledo, Spain The municipality of Aledo, Spain, is currently implementing various #sustainableprojects, benefitting from #EUfunds. Among such projects, there is NEVERMORE, aimed at supporting excellence in climate research. With a total budget of 213,750 euros, the Region of Murcia, partner of the project, is being analysed as an example of a Mediterranean region with a #desertclimate to identify its #climaterisks and #vulnerabilities, and develop corresponding participatory processes at local level. Aledo will also benefit from investments to implement or improve projects of separate collection systems for #biowaste, #textiles and #usedcookingoil. 🔝 The first LIFE COSTAdapta follow-up meeting has taken place this morning! 🤝 The project consortium met internally to define the technical part of the product development, the progress made by each partner so far and the next steps. 🌊 The aim of our European LIFE project is to design and test an innovative and progressive tidal pool-reef system, for the progressive adaptation of the coast of Gran Canaria to climate change. 👉 It has a duration of 7 years and a total budget of 3,409,864 EUR (of which 2,045,818 EUR are subsidised by the EU through the LIFE Programme). The 2019 Worldwide Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community states that “climate hazards such as extreme weather, higher temperatures, droughts, floods, wildfires, storms, sea level rise, soil degradation, and acidifying oceans are intensifying, threatening infrastructure, health, and water and food security. Irreversible damage to ecosystems and habitats will undermine the economic benefits they provide, worsened by air, soil, water, and marine pollution.” Consequently, societies remain extremely vulnerable to economic, health, humanitarian, geopolitical and environmental shocks.   Everything is interconnected. How can independent actors – nation states, civil society and multinational corporations alike – collaborate massively to safeguard the well-being of our species? How can we transform our failing economic operating systems and come out more resilient?
