🌍 Expo Real 2024 in Munich: A Recap: What's wrong with the picture?! 💡 During the expo, I covered an impressive 27.5 km—equivalent to 31,052 steps! While the display showed only 2,123 calories burned, the conversations and insights I gained were priceless. A heartfelt thank you to the many welcoming companies, clients and their booths, as well as the evening events in the city, for the delicious food, drinks and fantastic networking opportunities. What do I take away from the expo? Once again, it’s clear: it all depends on the role and the business model. Some companies are still facing financial challenges, exacerbated by regulatory hurdles in the banking sector. On the flip side, there are investors with capital ready to re-enter the market, especially from the distressed asset space. In the ESG and tech arena, I spoke with numerous players. The market still appears highly fragmented, with many pursuing similar approaches in ESG SaaS and related fields. Speed is crucial to stay ahead—partnering with a sector expert can definitely help—us! 🚀 And what about the VW Bus at the expo? What a panel to close the #IFAT2024 in Munich and draw some conclusions around “The future of living - adapting to the results of climate change”! The usual noise of a busy exhibition hall was barely noticeable, because two top experts were invited to speak about this topic, reflecting on #Urbanization and #Cities. Prof. Dr. Ian Goldin ( https://lnkd.in/dC7DMzyZ) gave the first keynote and spoke about the impact of inequality, social division, and climate change on cities. Despite these threats and challenges, Golding stressed that we must celebrate cities as source of creativity, hope, and potential. For that it is important to do things in new ways and develop technologies and the engineering to enable us to do that. Very intersting to hear that Germany and Japan have developed a healthy and globally unmatched decentralization, not being so dependant on mega cities, rather powerful regions. Daniel Libeskind (https://lnkd.in/d5azsvT4) then gave us his reasoning for designing iconic buildings and places in cities like New York, Berlin, Dresden, and Milano. He made it clear, why cities need open places where people meet, where culture and arts are developed, and how city architecture and urban planning can reflect on history, presence, and future. I asked Goldin, how important proximity, and density of people in cities still is for innovation, in times where digitalization enables remote collaboration. Based on research he answered that significant innovations still need people to be closely together. And that‘s why cities will not lose their role as powerhouses of economy and creativity. EXPO REAL (Messe München) 2024 in Munich is taking place 7-9 October, and digitalization and transformation are set to be key themes of the event. Over 45,000 real estate professionals from 70 countries will be attending. Responding to a pre-event digital survey, 91% of participants highlighted the importance of digitalization and 63% emphasized portfolio transformation. The survey also found that participates deem interest rate policies, energy solutions, and decarbonization as significant. Data centers are gaining importance, and future investments will focus on pension funds and family offices. Affordable housing remains a priority, with building in existing structures and serial construction being crucial. #Europe and the #USA are seen as vital markets.
