There are many drone sensors and drone models available for agricultural use. Some drones specialize in spraying, while others capture data that can be used to provide insight into crop or livestock health. Drones can be outfitted with multispectral, hyperspectral, thermal, LiDAR, and RGB sensors. Multispectral and hyperspectral sensors can detect water drainages and determine vegetation health. Thermal sensors can detect water stress and availability, and LiDAR sensors can estimate plant volume and provide terrain data. Some multispectral sensors used for farming include: - Micasense Altum - Micasense Rededge-MX - Parrot Sequoia+ Some specific drones used for farming include: (for imagery) - DJI Inspire 2 - DJI Matrice 200 V2 - DJI Phantom Series - DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral - eBee Series - Mikrokopter Hexa-II - DJI P4 Multispectral - Draganfly Commander 3XL (for spraying/seeding) - DJI Agras T30 - XAG P100 What agricultural drones are your favorite? Any I missed? Please leave a comment if you know of any additional sensors or drones used for precision agriculture! #dronesforgood #drones4good #drones #agriculture #farming #precisionagriculture #multispectral #thermal #lidar #hyperspectral #imagery Follow me (Kat James) to learn more about #dronesforgood. #Drones are an increasingly familiar technology finding a wide range of uses in the agriculture sector. In #agriculture drones are also being used in a battle – in that case against yield-robbing pests (insects, weeds, diseases). But drones are also a way to dramatically increase the ability to track the growth of crops and identify nutrient deficiencies. All this information can then guide key farm management decisions. Portfolio company UAVOS INC. uses its drones for precision agriculture. UAVOS INC.’s solution for gathering such #soil #moisture #data is based around its fixed-wing #Borey #unmanned aerial system (#UAS), and features a #multispectral #sensor #payload designed to provide both spatial and temporal resolution for better understanding of the soil moisture levels. Advanced Autonomous Solutions Fund portfolio companies are working on the #UAVs manufacture program as well as doing drone-based services.
Leveraging drones, data, and storytelling to advance global health, environmental, and humanitarian efforts.
Thanks everyone for tuning in this month! I hope you enjoyed learning more about how drones are being used for precision agriculture. I’ll finish out the month with a few resources for those interested in this topic: → Join the UAV 4 Agriculture Technical Working Group/Community: https://buff.ly/3wF7mi8 → Read through this UAV Handbook for Agricultural Research from Solvi: https://lnkd.in/e5a9DB_T → Check out this course by Blue Nose Aerial Imaging on drone sensors and vegetation indices: https://buff.ly/3HkhFxa → Scroll through DroneDeploy’s resources for using drones for precision agriculture. They have webinars, ebooks, blog posts, and more that you can find here: https://buff.ly/3wFpM2d → Pix4D also has published several webinars on agricultural drone applications that can be accessed at this link: https://buff.ly/3wHxUj0 →Finally, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN published an informative eBook titled E-agriculture in Action: Drones for Agriculture, which can be downloaded here: https://buff.ly/3jfu1OZ Please leave a comment if you know of any other resources I should add to my list :) #dronesforgood #drones4good #drones #agriculture #farming #precisionagriculture As always, follow me (Kat James) to learn more about #dronesforgood.

Excited to share the findings of our recent study on automating sheep counting using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and machine learning techniques. Traditional counting methods are labor-intensive and disruptive, while current automated solutions struggle with detection accuracy due to low object-to-image-pixel ratios and high object densities. Our research introduces a novel sub-window inference technique, which significantly improves detection and counting accuracy by increasing the object-to-image-pixel ratios. The method sub-divides the images into smaller windows on which inference is done, and the results are aggregated together in a way that rejects duplicate detections. Compared to four other methods, our approach achieved a mean absolute error (MAE) of 3.21 sheep and a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 1.27%. We also found that incorporating random cropping data augmentation during model training further enhances accuracy. While sub-window inference does not facilitate real-time predictions, it substantially reduces the MAE in automated sheep counting, providing a highly effective solution for sheep farmers. Well done to David Biggs for the great work, and Kristiaan Schreve for the co-supervision. #UAV #MachineLearning #AgricultureTech #SheepFarming #Innovation https://lnkd.in/dvkmwBHx

Balancing the UAV backlog and resources to complete a project will be different for each business model. Here at Cooper, we use Trello for our UAV flight board as well as assigning work tasks to the team. We have several FAA certified pilots (some of which are Professional Land Surveyors) as well as skilled flight subs that utilize our flight specification standards. Due to our backlog, we will forward sites over 200 acres to our manned aircraft division. It is cheaper for the client. We are busy flying every week across the country both with our in-house team and mutual flying partners (manned and unmanned). We also process data that our client chooses to fly the site per our flight specifications. It is a great relationship that we have built over the years with many companies that are getting into flying UAVs for mapping purposes. We have the technical skills and experience required to provide design grade survey mapping deliverables. Reach out to us if you would like to team up. You fly and we process.
