Deep Tech ventures begin with a problem identified through scientific research, and the technology that follows aims to address this challenge. In contrast to traditional tech startups, which often focus on market-ready applications, Deep Tech companies are founded on groundbreaking scientific discoveries or engineering innovations. These ventures offer solutions built around unique, protected, or difficult-to-replicate technological or scientific advantages. One of the defining features of Deep Tech is its extended development cycle. While these prolonged R&D periods pose significant challenges, they are intrinsic to the process. Deep Tech innovations aim to solve critical societal issues, requiring substantial effort and targeted support to navigate the high levels of technological and commercial risk involved. To create a strong deep tech ecosystem, it's essential to build an entrepreneurial mindset and culture right from the start. This requires taking several key steps: Support grassroots initiatives: Back initiatives that provide hands-on experiences essential for building entrepreneurial skills. Encourage broad participation: Open opportunities to students, researchers, and even non-technical individuals, ensuring everyone can contribute to deep tech commercialisation. Focus on quality: It’s not just about numbers; programmes must focus on quality to develop individuals equipped with the mindset and skills needed to succeed in entrepreneurship. Despite Europe's leadership in research, many groundbreaking technologies don't reach the market. DT Launch Pad, led by Delft University of Technology, has a goal to change that. This project supports the European Deep Tech community with comprehensive services, talent development, international knowledge exchange, and fostering start-ups. Currently, in Work Package 2, we're mapping research and assets to understand the needs of Deep Tech in Europe. This work lays the foundation for future activities, helping HEIs develop specialised training programs and bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical skills. 🔗Discover more in our newest blog post written by @Julia Bauer, @Inkubator accent: https://lnkd.in/eJPnQeg3 Munster Technological University , Institut Mines-Télécom Business School, Crazy Town Oy, Ege University, accent Inkubator GmbH, Momentum Educate + Innovate, Delft University of Technology University Industry Innovation Network (UIIN) , University of Ljubljana #DeepTech #Startup #Innovation #FutureTech #EuropeanDeepTechCommunity #Entrepreneur

🙋♀️ As someone who's deeply passionate about the biotech space, I find it fascinating to dive into the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024 and I would like to share some insights with you. With the landscape constantly shifting, especially post-pandemic, new tech hubs are emerging, and GenAI and Cleantech are paving the way for a sustainable future. Here are a few highlights that resonate with me: 1️⃣ AI-driven change: AI is still a major draw for VC funding, taking up a hefty 18% of all global investments. But it’s not just about building tech, global compliance and ethical AI are rightfully taking center stage, as the EU’s new AI Act demonstrates. 2️⃣ Cleantech on the rise: Europe is leading early-stage Cleantech funding, thanks to strong policy support. Areas like carbon reduction and the circular economy are seeing more innovation and investment. 3️⃣ A broader horizon: Emerging ecosystems like Lyon, Tashkent, and the Rhineland are producing their first unicorns, showing us all that innovation knows no borders. For entrepreneurs worldwide, I think it’s safe to say the opportunities are endless. Agree? In the meantime, I will be sharing more valuable insights from the report, stay tuned! 🔔 https://lnkd.in/di-3BN3b #Biotech #Startups #Innovation #Cleantech #GenAI #Entrepreneurship

Our team attended the Berlin Startup Conference 2024 yesterday, and I would like to extend my gratitude to all the organisers and participants for a great event! 🚀 The conference's broader focus provided a fascinating opportunity to observe the stark contrasts between biotech and pure IT startups. In the biotech realm, we often grapple with significantly longer R&D cycles, stringent regulatory hurdles, and substantially higher capital requirements. One of the most striking differences, in my opinion, is that IT startups frequently experience swift revenue materialisation. Their digital products seamlessly reach users, with monetisation following in quick succession — a pace that can undoubtedly evoke a tinge of envy among biotech entrepreneurs. 🙄 Yet, this disparity raises an intriguing question: What valuable lessons can we, as biotech startups, glean from the lightning-fast evolution and agility of the IT world? How can we infuse our domain with the scalability, innovation, and dynamism that IT startups thrive on while navigating our unique challenges? In our company, we are trying to leverage the full spectrum of advantages that AI offers, but are there alternative approaches we might be overlooking? 🤔 Share your thoughts! Does anyone have any fresh insights on this? #Biotech #IT #Innovation #BerlinStartupConference2024
