Hello everyone! I'm excited to share my latest publication, titled "Length of Stay di Instalasi Gawat Darurat sebagai Indikator Mutu Pelayanan Kesehatan di Rumah Sakit X Tahun 2024." This article is based on my undergraduate thesis, exploring an important performance indicator in Emergency Department: Length of Stay (LOS). Prolonged LOS, especially for patients transferred from the Emergency Department to inpatient care, can lead to overcrowding, increase risks for patients, and impact overall satisfaction. Published in Jurnal ARSI (Administrasi Rumah Sakit Indonesia) in October 2024, this research uses lean thinking to examine service flow, identify barriers, and analyze root causes of LOS in Hospital X’s Emergency Department. I also provide recommendations for improving patient care and operational efficiency. The current state of DOH-regulated and operated hospitals is deeply concerning. These facilities are often overcrowded, understaffed, and poorly maintained, despite the critical role they play in delivering healthcare to millions of Filipinos. While the Department of Health (DOH) has focused much of its attention on PhilHealth and expanding facilities like BUCAS, it has neglected to address the deteriorating conditions of many existing hospitals under its purview. These hospitals, which receive significant funding from PhilHealth, should be providing better care. Yet, patients are forced to wait hours, sometimes even days, for basic treatment. It’s simply unfair to our people, who deserve timely and dignified care. By implementing simple solutions, like efficient scheduling and better management practices, we can reduce patient wait times and alleviate much of their suffering. We must shift focus from merely expanding infrastructure to maintaining and improving what we already have. The government should prioritize fixing the broken systems within DOH-managed hospitals, ensuring that the funds being paid to these institutions result in real improvements. Our goal should be to elevate the quality of healthcare, one hospital at a time, for a healthier Philippines. #UHC #primarycare Ted Herbosa Susan Mercado Jude Acidre
