🎉 It's the National Lottery's 30th birthday! 🎉🤞 Since the first draw in 1994, the National Lottery has raised over £49 billion for good causes and awarded over 690,000 individual grants to projects and organisations, including here at the Dudley Canal & Tunnel Trust. Congratulations to Dr. Sattar Khoshkhoo, on his selection to receive the RASopathies Network MDBR Research Award for his project entitled "An iPSC-based Platform for Characterization of Neuronal Circuit Dysfunction in RASopathies" RASopathy syndromes affect brain development, behavior, cognition, and executive processing. Individuals with these syndromes may experience anxiety, autism, ADHD, and/or seizures. We need to advance research to address these concerns for patients with RASopathies. This project will establish a platform to study nerve connections in a dish, how they function differently with activated RAS/MAPK signaling caused by specific mutations, and how they respond to experimental therapeutic drugs! https://lnkd.in/et-rpBac
Congrats to the 2024 #MDBR grant awardees! Thirty-eight projects were funded with $2.6M raised for 34 #rarediseases. Thank you to our MDBR community for their fundraising & commitment to the cause. See the complete list of projects here: https://lnkd.in/e4ctVrEq

We’re excited to share that the funds raised by Team Castleman and the CDCN through the 2024 Million Dollar Bike Ride helped support a grant awarded to Dr. David Fajgenbaum and Dr. Melanie Mumau for their study, “Investigating clonal expansion of pathogenic T cells in idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease (iMCD)” Although the cause of iMCD remains unclear, we know that T cells may drive Castleman disease activity. This study will explore how T cells become overactive and whether their changes can predict flare-ups. We’re so proud to be part of this incredible effort to advance rare disease research! #CastlemanDisease #CureCastleman #Castleman #CDCN #RareDisease #OrphanDisease

We are pleased to announce that Caledonia Housing Association has created a £12,000 community fund, as part of our #GivingBack campaign to support community organisations which provide vital services and activities for its tenants. Managed through our Neighbourhood Officers, this fund will ensure resources are allocated to address local needs and support community organisations that directly impact tenants' lives, particularly during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Forty organisations have received financial support from the fund including: 🏠 Lochee Community Hub in Dundee 🏠 Faifley Parish Church in Clydebank 🏠 Tulloch Primary School in Perth The new fund has been established using proceeds generated from the sale of our Caledonia’s Broughty Ferry office, Northwood House, in Dundee which was donated to Caledonia by The Northwood Charitable Trust. Proceeds of the Northwood House sale have also allowed us to continue our partnership with Scarf, the energy-saving advisory service which supports tenants to manage their energy costs, as well as establish a new partnership with Lightning Reach, a financial support portal which provides access to a range of personalised services to build financial resilience and wellbeing. Growth and expansion for Australian charities and not-for-profit (NFP) organisations often brings about a pivotal decision: considering transitioning from an incorporated association (IA) to a company limited by guarantee (CLG). We shed light on the legal implications, the continuity of rights and obligations, plus the changes in governance and reporting duties that accompany this strategic shift: https://lnkd.in/d595pNrR
