It’s encouraging to witness the progress being made towards incentivising off-peak electric vehicle (EV) charging across fast, rapid, and ultra-rapid public charging networks. The latest AA EV Recharge Report highlights a significant pricing reduction of up to 28% in December. Additionally, their recent polling data reveals that while 80% of drivers believe there are more fuel stations, only 6% feel there are more EV charging devices than fuel forecourts. At the time of publishing, the UK had 8,329 fuel forecourts compared to over 37,000 public charging locations available for drivers. #electrification #ev #evcharging #cleantransportation #accessibility

Exciting to see #V2G bi- directional #EV charging becoming a real force in Australia. It will be transformative for #energysecurity and #energytransition across our 5 large coastal cities. This is an excellent article by Dr. Syed M. Nawazish Ali at RMIT University. Quote: “As more car owners go electric, the size of the battery fleet on Australian roads and driveways is growing fast. Without V2G, these batteries are just used for one thing – to make a car, truck or bus operate. But these batteries could do much more. Australia’s electric fleet is now over 180,000. If the average battery pack size was 50 kWh, that would represent a giant distributed battery of 9 gigawatt hours. The largest grid-scale battery under construction in Australia will have 2.4 gigawatt hours. For energy authorities, this fleet of batteries presents a huge opportunity. At times of peak demand, they could offer financial incentives for EV owners to discharge to the grid. Used carefully, EV batteries could avert blackouts. A decentralised power source is more resilient to shocks. It could mean avoiding the need to fire up expensive gas plants at times of peak demand. For EV owners, the financial incentives could be enough to let their cars be used to keep the grid stable. In testing, early V2G users have been able to turn large power bills into power payments. Annual earnings could be as high as $9-$12,000 per vehicle in New South Wales, according to one report.” Somebody must have done some good modelling on this - but I bet it’s a much lower capital cost to encourage a widely distributed virtual power plant through bi- directional charged #ev networks- than many other options such as expensive grid upgrades battling low social licence. For policy makers and Energy Ministers - all it takes is amending regulations, setting standards and maybe providing a subsidy for installing bi directional charging and upgrades to residential/commercial power management systems. And maybe also crashing through legacy system thinking. Reece Whitby

With more EV riders, especially two-wheeler fleet owners and last-mile delivery services seeking to lower downtime and quick charging experience, the demand for fast charging technology will soar drastically. At present, DC fast charging which operates at a level of 50-350kW allows electric vehicles to achieve significant charge levels within short durations often ranging from 30 minutes to a couple of hours. However, the push for even faster-charging technology has seen an uptick in the development of ultra-fast EV charging systems backed by high-power chargers with power levels surpassing 350 kW. #fastcharging #DCchargers #transformation
