A sense of hope doesn’t just arise in peace. It’s forged in unity. When I lived and worked in rural communities, in particular on a farm in Japan, I witnessed this firsthand. Challenges—like extreme weather threatening crops—were inevitable. But what gave us strength wasn’t the absence of challenges; it was the bond we shared as a community. No matter what happened, we knew we’d come together to support each other. In today’s increasingly divided world, it’s easy to feel disconnected and retreat inward, focusing only on our personal safety and well-being. But when we isolate ourselves, the gaps in our world—between those with access to opportunities and resources and those without—only grow wider.
