When it comes to live Christmas trees, in Oregon the top choices are Douglas-fir and noble fir (pictured). They represent about 90 percent of sales within the state. Clackamas, Marion, Polk and Benton counties are the leading producers of Christmas trees in Oregon. Estimates are that around 14 million Christmas trees nationally will be cut and sold this year, down from more than 20 million in 2002. Oregon's Douglas-fir and noble fir Christmas trees are the number 2 and 3 choice nationally, behind only the eastern-grown Fraser fir.
