🚨 NEW BLOG POST. I’m not a father and my relationship with my dad was fraught. He died when we were both too young, and I’ve been working on me ever since. In this post I write about one of my favorite sacred places, the Wind Point Lighthouse, the pull of Lake Michigan, family, friends and Father’s Day. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/ehFE2yMm
On sacred ground and listening to the still small voice

Fall is in the air, bringing cooler days, vibrant leaves, and cozy nights around the fire. There’s something about this season that feels refreshing. What part of fall do you look forward to the most—the crisp air, bonfires, or the burst of colors? #montereyrealestate #centralcoastrealestate #californiarealestate #carmelrealestate #californiaCommercialRealEstate #CaliforniaPropertyManagement #pacificgroverealestat #SeasideRealEstate #MarinaRealEstate #MontereyBayRealEstate #OceanPacificRealtyGroup #LinkedInRealEstate

🎄🎅 BREAKING NEWS: The Grinch is getting ready for his big night on Santa Duty! 🎅🎄 We caught the big green guy sneaking in a little me-time before helping Santa tackle the big Christmas Eve rush tonight. 🍹✨ Rumor has it he’s been resting up for the long night ahead and may have been swapping elf stories with our team over a Butterscotch Bourbon or two...or three. Speaking of, we’ve absolutely loved having the Grinch around the office these past few weeks! From helping us with holiday cheer (in his own mischievous way) to keeping everyone on their toes, it’s been a festive season to remember. That said, we’ll probably notice the difference in our Butterscotch Bourbon stash — the marketing bottles have been disappearing at record speed since he arrived. 😂 Guess even the Grinch can’t resist a little holiday spirit from Mr. Toms / List Distillery! Wishing you all a magical Christmas Eve filled with laughter, love, and maybe a little mischief of your own. Here's to the Grinch, Santa, and everyone making tonight merry and bright! 🎁🎄✨ #MerryChristmas #GrinchOnTheLoose #HolidayFun #velocityengineeringservices #GeotechnicalEngineering #ConstructionConsulting #EngineeringServices #EngineeringExperts #EngineeringTheFuture #SoilMechanics #NaplesFlorida #TeamVelocity #FoundationEngineering #SWFL #ReserveStudy #StructuralIntegrity #SIRS

Twice in my #life I've gone down the "rabbit hole." I still really have not climbed out. ▶ Obsession #1: The Donner Party. Who were they? (Just ask Jack Nicholson's character in Steven King's "The Shining.") They were a group of covered wagon settlers who traveled from Springfield, IL to what today is Sacramento, CA, in 1846, only to get to present day Truckee, CA on the eastern flank of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and become snowbound. As in they had to build cabins and winter there for 6 months, with almost all of the food running out in the first few weeks. Yes, they ended up resorting to cannibalism to survive. But the stories of #personal and #communal #perseverance in this story has always captured my awe and attention. Of rescuers trekking 80 miles through 15-20 feet deep of snow only to find the #survivors so starved, that many could not even return with the rescuers (and were eventually cannibalized). I have personally covered about 75% of the Donner's cross country #journey on foot or car in the last 30 years. Best spots are in Utah and Northern California, but there are fascinating remnants of the trail in Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and Nevada, too. ➡ Do I have a single person in my network who shares my interest in the Donner Party? ➡ Would anyone like a book recommendation to learn more? ➡ Are any of my Mormon friends aware of the incredible significance the Donner's had on modern day Mormon life? P.S., I already used up too much LinkedIn real estate describing my first rabbit hole. Rabbit hole #2 to follow in a separate post.

this week has been an emotional roller coaster and my latest Substack explores the journey through time spent with Birds and Water. Grief, loss, compassion…and gratitude. i hope you will take a few minutes to read. perhaps you will find a nugget of inspiration. and, as always, i hope you are taking care of your hearts. a taste: “Crow’s nests are evident in bare treetops from late Autumn until the leafing of Spring once again secludes them in a panoply of greens and reds. i imagine this wondrous Corvid scanning the landscape for food, company, and souls ready to be taken behind the veil (that is their call, after all) from their pinnacle, keen dark eyes, always aware. always. “i’m finally settled into my new nest. a ground nest because of course Birds build nests everywhere. “bird-like” is not something i would have consider myself. more Earth and Water person than Air…and yet as i’ve aged, i’m drawn to both the physical wonder of Birds and the metaphors that are wrapped around them. i can see why humans have found inspiration in them since, perhaps, our first breath. i’ve written poems about flying. about Icarus. that desire to be free and lift off the ground. it is powerful. “to move with the ease of Water is also powerful. […] this is all to say that being by Water offers me perspective. what am i in control of? standing by River, listening to the movement of Water, singing of Birds, noticing fallen Trees shifting the current, the all of the ecosystem…it is in constant change. i am a part of it. i breathe it in. i see myself in the flow of my own life. i head home to my nest, my blood flowing more like a gentle stream. grateful.” #griefandloss #griefjourney #compassion #Substack #gratitude #spiritualcompanion #spiritualdirection #nurtureyourjourney #change_is_constant #be_with_the_questions #crows #inspiration #beingpresent
