The Security Strategy for the Kingdom of the Netherlands published in April 2023 highlights that the complex and evolving situation in #Venezuela holds significant implications for the Netherlands. Venezuela's political instability, economic crises, extensive criminal networks, and growing alliances with non-Western powers like Russia, China, and Iran pose potential security and economic challenges that could ripple across the Caribbean and beyond. The Dutch Caribbean, particularly the ABC islands (#Aruba, #Bonaire, and #Curaçao), which share maritime borders with Venezuela, are directly impacted by flows of illicit drugs and weapons, displacement, and regional security concerns. In this three-part series, #Dyami collaborates with World of Crime (Chris Dalby) to delve into the political, international, and criminal challenges facing Venezuela, and why these developments matter for the Netherlands. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for Dutch policymakers and businesses conducting business in the region. dyami | security intelligence | count on us https://lnkd.in/eZiqW8RH

Despite decades of espionage activities by China’s Ministry of State Security (the foreign and domestic intelligence service of the People’s Republic of China), recent cases in Europe show that China’s espionage remains a key concern for European businesses and society. Reports of China’s sophisticated efforts to gather foreign intelligence and influence political opinion in Europe through covert operations have increased. This is due to Europe’s strategic importance for China, with China’s aim to separate it from the influence of the United States and improve its economic ties and improve China’s image in the continent. Intensifying covert operations makes it vital for governments, companies, and individuals to remain proactive in defending against these threats. Over the past years, #Haiti has been engulfed in a severe economic, political, and security crisis. Escalating gang violence led to over half a million people displaced, millions in urgent need of humanitarian aid, and nearly 50% of the population facing food insecurity. Almost two months after the arrival of the first 400 of the planned 2,500 Kenyan soldiers of the UN-backed international Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission aimed at restoring order and building police capability in the country, the situation remains dire. So far the mission, initially welcomed by the international community and deemed crucial by the interim Prime Minister Conille, has encountered significant challenges, and it is struggling to make significant progress. Concerns arise from the mission's limited transparency, inadequate cooperation with Haitian authorities, and the risk of repeating past human rights violations seen in previous international interventions in Haiti. Without addressing these issues and the root causes of Haiti's violence, as well as adopting a long-term strategy, the mission's effectiveness remains in doubt. dyami | security intelligence | count on us https://lnkd.in/e88NEXCZ #security #LatinAmerica #Haiti #MSS #violence #gangs #Dyami
