Operating under the EU's Digital Product Passport which aims to advance transparency and environmental sustainability, Fab City Hamburg e.V.'s Fab City OS (OS stands for Operating System) is a collection of different open source software solutions divided into the "Fab City OS Suite" and the "Fab City OS Core" network. As part of the Dyne Foundation's INTERFACER project, the Fab City OS, and its open source solutions can be hosted locally to connect and provide Fab Cities, a vision we are working together with Fab City Foundation, meaning locally productive and globally connected self-sufficient cities, with transparency and documentation for their design and manufacturing processes.

As the holiday season approaches, I’m thrilled to share my latest work: an article on the INTERFACER project and its Fab City OS, for which key members are the Fab City Hamburg e.V. and the Dyne.org foundation, published for the European Commission Open Source Observatory #OSOR. It’s the final publication of the year, and I’m excited to contribute to such an important platform. Global manufacturing can pose dangers , particularly concerning the significant amount of #waste associated with its processes. Operating under the legal framework of the EU's #Digital_Product_Passport that aims to advance #transparency and #environmental_sustainability, Fab City Hamburg's Fab City OS is a collection of different open source software solutions that aim to connect the design and manufacturing operations of #Fab_Cities: self-sufficient, locally productive, and globally connected cities. By designing globally and manufacturing locally, #CO2_emissions and waste production can be significantly reduced. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Adam Burns for taking the time to participate in an interview for my OSOR article. Happy holidays to everyone ! Introducing the Green Coding Guide by Vast Forward Bildpunktmobilisierung GmbH! 🌳 I'm thrilled to share a significant milestone from our sustainability initiative, VAST GREEN. As part of our commitment to a more sustainable digital future, we developed our comprehensive Green Coding Guide. Now our standard, this guide is packed with practical tips for front-end developers, derived from our own projects, on how to create greener digital projects. Here are some highlights: ↘ Minimizing Data Transfer: Reduce the amount of data transferred by optimizing images, using efficient data formats, and implementing lazy loading. This not only speeds up your site but also cuts down on energy consumption. ↘ Efficient Coding Practices: Write clean, efficient code to minimize the computational resources required. This includes avoiding unnecessary loops and optimizing algorithms to reduce server load and energy use. ↘ Green Hosting: Choose hosting providers that use renewable energy sources. This ensures that the energy powering your digital projects is as green as possible. These are just a few of the many strategies outlined in our guide. By adopting these practices, we can collectively reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to a more sustainable digital ecosystem. Let's code for a greener future! Check out the full guide: https://lnkd.in/eAAufRvU and join the conversation on how we can all make a difference. #Sustainability #GreenCoding #greencodingguide #VastGreen #DigitalTransformation #EcoFriendlyTech #wedonotjustcompensate #vastforward
