🔌 The EU’s climate ambitions will succeed or fail at the national level. 🎯 To make the #energytransition a reality, we need robust planning and implementation across Member States. That’s where the National Energy and Climate Plans (#NECPs) come in – key roadmaps addressing renewable energy, infrastructure, innovation, and competitiveness. But there’s a critical piece missing: a national #electrification indicator. Including this in the reviewed NECPs is essential for tracking progress, and staying on course toward a sustainable energy future. 🌍 That is why we’re calling on the new European Commission to step up, and deliver its Electrification Action Plan within its first 100 days❗ Let’s move electrification to the fast track, and make it a priority for Europe. Global investment in clean energy tech to reach $2 trillion+ in 2024! Excellent progress, but this is still far from what is needed to reach climate targets. A lot of potential still exists! “Clean energy investment is setting new records even in challenging economic conditions, highlighting the momentum behind the new global energy economy. For every dollar going to fossil fuels today, almost two dollars are invested in clean energy” - Fatih Birol Check out the International Energy Agency (IEA) Word Energy Investment 2024 Report here: https://lnkd.in/drfNKy4Q #climatetech #cleanenergy #energysector #investment

I’m launching 🚀 my #SolarWeek with an important exchange with EU Energy Ministers. Today I will be joining the 27 EU Energy Ministers and representatives from the European Commission during their Energy Council to discuss the status of the European #solar landscape. ☀ In 2022, the EU Solar Strategy and #REPowerEU changed the game. Europe is now betting on a 750 GW solar deployment target for 2030 to decarbonise our economy, protect our citizens from fossil volatility, and reinforce European industrial competitiveness. To deliver the energy transition and support Europe’s energy transition and security, European solar manufacturers have another target: 30 GW of manufacturing by 2030, across the supply chain. 🏭 Solar has boomed in the early 2020s – at least 40% annual growth for three years in a row. 📈 But now we’re maturing, and as we reach this new stage, we face more sophisticated challenges. Developers face inflation, permitting is still harder than it needs to be, and grid bottlenecks are only tightening – alongside solar, Ministers also have a dedicated agenda point on #grid flexibility today. 🔋 For manufacturers, it’s mission critical, as they fight to survive under difficult market conditions. Bankruptcies ⚠ are mounting, just as Europe is asking us to scale up. Though I’m sad to miss the opening of another great #SolarPowerSummit, this meeting with Ministers comes at a critical moment. Watch this space for our official read-out and reaction later. Insights from our Recent Meeting with Mathis Rogner working as Project Lead Southeast Asia at Agora Energiewende. Diving deep into the crucial topic of Grid Reliability for accommodating renewables, our discussion illuminated fascinating perspectives, especially within the unique dynamics of Pakistan's power market. In a landscape where local demand patterns diverge significantly from international norms, transitioning towards renewables presents both opportunities and challenges. Despite our reliance on thermal sources, acknowledging the limitations of system's inertia that the major inductions of renewables can bring is a point of thought. It was insightful to listen Sir Mathis Rogner perspective on compelling notion of Super Grid Interconnection just Like Europe. He emphasized the need for a robust domestic grid as a prerequisite for such ambitious endeavors. Long-term planning emerges as a cornerstone in this journey towards sustainable energy transition. Reflecting on Germany's energy transition saga, it's awe-inspiring to witness the power of foresight and strategic policymaking. As we navigate these discussions, let's continue fostering dialogue and collaboration towards a future where sustainability and reliability harmonize seamlessly. Together, let's power the change! #GlobalPerspectives #GridReliability #RenewableEnergy National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Margalla School on Energy & Climate Renewables First

Attending the ENTSO-E conference Powering the Sustainable Transition: Grids for a Carbon-Neutral and Competitive #Europe yesterday was such a rewarding experience! ⚡ Even more special as we celebrated ENTSO-E’s 15th anniversary. 🎉 The discussions highlighted the pivotal role grids play in Europe’s energy transition—and the massive challenges we need to overcome, from integrating renewables to tackling supply chain disruptions and strengthening #gridsecurity. Here are some main takeaways: 1️⃣ Massive investments are needed: €700bn by 2050, including €400bn for offshore wind infrastructure. There is a need for urgent action on permitting, funding, and public-private partnerships as these will be critical to delivering the scale of change needed. 2️⃣ Digitalisation & flexibility will be the future: the smarter use of existing capacity can cut costs and improve stability, but we need market reforms to make flexibility economically viable and attractive for participants. 3️⃣ Collaboration is key: from Ukraine’s or the Balkans' grid synchronisation to offshore wind projects, cross-border and cross-sector partnerships will drive progress. Simplifying permitting, planning, and equipment design will go a long way in reducing delays. The road ahead is challenging. But every step counts, and achieving a resilient, decarbonised grid will require ongoing commitments from all stakeholders.💡 #EnergyTransition #Grids #Sustainability #Innovation #Collaboration

Great to be at Stormont today to launch the NI gas networks’ short policy paper, ‘Enabling a Greener Energy Future’, which focuses on the range of benefits to unlocking NI’s biomethane opportunity. 👇 👉🏻 Read the paper and 3 key high-level policy suggestions we make here: https://lnkd.in/etTE2FaP Attendees heard from Phillip Brett, Chair of the Economy Committee, on the role of biomethane in local energy decarbonisation and sustainable stimulus of our rural economy, and from Minister Andrew Muir MLA on the role DAERA see for biomethane in helping improve our environment – reducing excess nutrient problems affecting our land and water resources. Industry representatives spoke of the pressing need for the competitiveness of local businesses seeking access to this practical near-term green energy solution. The industry were encouraged to see the Department for the Economy NI Call for Evidence earlier this year, now we need ambitious and supportive policy development to swiftly follow. We will play our role in supporting NI’s pathway to net zero, working with government officials, as well as colleagues in the Utility Regulator NI and right across the NI energy sector, to enable a greener energy future.
