M&S CEO: NEW LEADERSHIP WILL BOOST INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE M&S chief executive Stuart Machin is “hopeful” that the retailer’s international performance will improve with the introduction of new leadership. During the retailer’s annual general meeting this week, shareholders questioned the boss over its “poor” international performance this year and asked what could be done to realise the potential of the overseas business. Machin admitted: ” We haven’t achieved the growth we want but I am hopeful we will change that in the medium/longer term as we introduce new leadership and with our experienced international partners.” The chief executive’s comments come amid the appointment of Mark Lemming as M&S new managing director of international in January. BJ's Wholesale Club Announces New COO and Supply Chain Chief Amid Leadership Reshuffle BJ’s Wholesale Club has promoted two seasoned executives to key leadership roles following the resignation of Jeff Desroches, the company’s long-standing Chief Operations Officer. Scott Schmadeke has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. With 30 years of grocery industry expertise, including leadership roles at Albertsons, Haggen, Inc., and Safeway, Schmadeke most recently served as BJ’s Vice President of Field and Fresh Operations. In his new role, he will oversee the retailer’s clubs, distribution centers, logistics, and asset protection, reporting directly to CEO Bob Eddy. Krystyna Kostka has been elevated to Chief Supply Chain Officer. Kostka, who joined BJ’s in 2014, previously served as Senior Vice President of Operations, where she was instrumental in expanding BJ’s Gas. In her new role, she will manage distribution, logistics, planning, allocation, and robotics automation, reporting to Schmadeke. “These leadership changes reinforce BJ’s commitment to operational excellence and supply chain innovation,” said the company in a statement. Over the weekend I read about Endeavour Group's CEO, Steve Donohue, deciding to step down after leading the company through a successful demerger and significant growth. Even with strong performance and a well-established strategy, high-calibre leaders like Donohue choose when it's time to move on for a variety of reasons. It highlights a critical truth: Executive transitions aren’t "if" moments, they’re "when" moments. Companies that wait until the announcement are already behind.
