The promise of America, British honesty, and taking the fight back to overseas competition... These were just a few of the themes that our MD Thomas Kirk listened to and commented on during the recent Insider Media International Growth Round Table he participated in. So what was the view from the Francis Kirk camp? 🔵 Europe continues to be our business's biggest trading partner 🔵 The Middle East has required a more localised approach, but has quickly started to perform strongly 🔵 The USA beckons! We're a British company on the global stage, with an international reputation founded on quality, integrity, transparency, and a century and a half's worth of expertise and experience. Onwards and upwards! #fasteners #manufacturing #EngineeringExcellence #internationalbusiness #globalbusiness

Read the summary from our board member Claude Jaeck
In his October 11, 2024 speech at the Cambridge Union, George Yeo, former Singaporean Foreign Minister, offered his insights on global politics, cultural shifts, and Asia’s role on the world stage. Yeo in his signature style of simplicity and clarity discussed the evolving dynamics of power in Asia, particularly China’s ascent and the impact it has on regional and global alliances. Emphasizing the complexity of Asia’s relationships, Yeo highlighted that Western nations often misunderstand Asia’s unique blend of cooperation and competition. He underscored the importance of understanding historical and cultural contexts to navigate geopolitical issues effectively. Additionally, he shared reflections from his political and diplomatic career, discussing the impact of diverse cultural perspectives on leadership and international relations. He also emphasized ASEAN’s crucial role as a stabilizing force in an increasingly polarized global landscape. Yeo argued that ASEAN serves as a “geopolitical buffer” between major powers, especially in light of escalating U.S.-China tensions. He stressed that ASEAN’s strength lies in its non-aligned, consensus-driven approach, which helps foster regional stability and prevents Southeast Asia from being dominated by any single global power. Yeo highlighted ASEAN’s unique position in facilitating dialogue and economic cooperation, allowing its member states to navigate competing interests without direct confrontation. This diplomatic balance not only strengthens the region but also enables ASEAN to act as a cultural and political bridge between East and West. Yeo believes that through ASEAN, Southeast Asia can continue to thrive in a multipolar world by staying united and avoiding exclusive alliances with major powers .

Big congratulations to the World Trade Organization Secretariat for hosting its annual Presidential Lecture, this time featuring Charles Michel, President of the European Council. So many valuable insights were shared, and here are some of our takeaways: 🌐 Trust, Trade, Transform: Multilateralism in today's complex world requires three core elements – building trust, advancing trade as an engine of cooperation, and transforming institutions to meet 21st-century challenges. ⚖️ Reforming the WTO: A top priority for the EU, President Michel underscored the importance of reforming the WTO's dispute settlement mechanism to ensure a fair and impartial process. This reform is crucial to making global trade rules work for all countries, large and small. 🌱 The Role of Trade in Sustainability: Trade, when managed effectively, can be a powerful tool for climate action. President Michel highlighted the need for international cooperation on environmental standards and "just transitions" to make sustainable growth accessible to developing countries. 🤝 EU-Africa Cooperation: President Michel expressed a strong commitment to fostering deeper trade and economic partnerships with Africa and noted that EU support should prioritize growth and development. 🕰️ Strategic Patience and Active Listening: In response to complex global challenges, President Michel advocated for strategic patience and active listening, especially when addressing the needs of diverse regions and countries. This approach is vital to creating inclusive and enduring solutions in international trade. Did you watch the lecture? If yes, please share your takeaways in the comment section.
