AI is powering a wave of digital technology aimed at supporting families and children – and the UK is leading the way in Europe. In a first-of-its-kind study, we analysed trends in research, investment and patents to understand the trajectory of this emerging tech. Here's what we found: 💥 UK research funding for early years digital tech is booming, with UKRI funding increasing by 166% from 2019 to 2023, while global research publications on the topic rose by 78%. 📈 Global venture funding for early-years digital technology increased by 41% between 2019 and 2023, peaking during the pandemic 🏥 Health is a key focus, with two two-thirds of UKRI research funding awarded to this area 🤖 AI is a key driver of this wave of innovation, with approximately two-thirds of newly awarded UKRI research funding directed toward AI-powered tech. The pace of growth we found is promising. But we need more evidence on how AI and digital tech can boost outcomes. Developers should also design and trial products with parents and practitioners in order to realise the potential of this innovation. Read more ➡ https://bit.ly/4cCeVJ8

In the past year, I've seen an uptick in AI experimentation across traditionally conservative industries -although most deployments remain in Proof of Concept (PoC) stage. However, with token costs decreasing, AI is becoming more accessible and reliable, allowing businesses of all sizes to experiment with automation, data governance, and decision-making capabilities. The real benefits of AI currently lie in narrow, well-controlled use cases, but as these PoCs evolve, broader adoption will follow. Companies that invest now in focused AI projects will be better positioned when the technology scales and more disruptive applications emerge. #AIMonth #AnsonMcCade #AMC

Emerging Technologies That Are Shaping Our Future In today's fast-paced world, technological advancements are not just making our lives easier—they’re transforming the very fabric of society. Here are some of the most exciting emerging technologies of 2024 that you should keep an eye on: 🔍 AI for Scientific Discovery Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing the field of scientific research. From predicting protein structures with DeepMind's AlphaFold to discovering new antibiotics, AI is accelerating the pace of discovery across every scientific discipline. It’s more than just a buzzword—it’s redefining how we understand and interact with our world. 🌍 Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) Imagine a world where walls are not just walls—they’re dynamic, intelligent components of a wireless network. RIS technology optimizes wireless communications, enhancing coverage and capacity in places like smart factories, farms, and even urban environments. This innovation promises more reliable communication and less environmental impact. 🚀 High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS) Operating at around 20 km above the Earth, these platforms—think balloons or airships—could provide internet access to over 2.6 billion people currently without it. HAPS are not only quick to deploy but also critical in emergency situations, offering a sustainable and flexible alternative to traditional infrastructure. 💡 Technologies like these are not just futuristic concepts—they’re actively shaping the world around us. Let’s stay informed, stay curious, and be part of this technological revolution!

Recently had a chat with a physician and learned about how evolution mirrors technological innovation. There are two types of evolution: Drift and Shift. Drifting evolution is all about incremental improvements, taking what was and making the next version better. Shifting evolution is about step-leaps towards something altogether different. When a shift occurs, organisms that were drifting often can no longer compete as the velocity of their drift is not fast enough to catch up to the shift (e.g., when the flu virus shifts, the vaccine loses efficacy). There are great parallels to evaluating start-up ideas and thinking about innovation. Shifts like Mobile were pivotal in shaping our technology landscape today. Electrification is another shift well underway. Many believe AI represents another such shift. In my opinion the key takeaway comparing evolution and innovation is: If you can, it's nearly always better to work on something that's part of a shift. When you're drifting, you're almost certainly competing directly against an incumbent... and incumbents have become very good at value capture in the tech sector over the past few decades (probably a subject of a future post!). Silicon Valley's reign as the AI kingpin is being challenged. There's a seismic shift happening. Across the globe, local communities are emerging as unexpected contenders, driving innovation and shaping the next tech revolution. They're proving that groundbreaking ideas and AI breakthroughs aren't confined to a single geographic location. Why is this happening? Diversity of thought. Local communities bring unique perspectives and challenges to the table, fostering innovative solutions that Silicon Valley's echo chamber might miss. Access to untapped talent. Beyond the Bay Area, there's a world brimming with brilliant minds, hungry for opportunity and ready to solve complex problems with AI. Cultural insight. Localized AI solutions are being developed with a deep understanding of cultural nuances, making technology more accessible and relevant to people's lives worldwide. This decentralization of AI innovation democratizes technology, making it more reflective of the global population it seeks to serve. It's a reminder that the future of tech isn't about a single place or group of people. It’s about a global community pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Enterprise Technology Association was created to empower connection and build bridges to communities across the nation.
