There was a glaring skills divide between Kenyan TVET participants and other global participants in the recently concluded World skills competition. Quoting a reporter in a Kenyan news channel "it was soon evident Kenya and other African countries had a lot of catching up to do with the rest of the competitors especially from Asian and European countries". There's this fascinating biblical story about Joshua and his counterparts going to spy the land they were to occupy. Joshua's and Caleb's perspectives were positive, but their counterparts saw giants in the land and equated themselves to grasshoppers. This story ties well with Kenya's lackluster at the competition. TVETs need to decide what to do from here henceforth. It is either we adopt a 'can-do' mentality and engage world leaders to improve our curricula, learning systems and teaching methods, or, recoil and feel sorry for ourselves. We can also opt to continue ignoring global advancements and continue in our stone age technologies. The ball is in our court. Bottom up is the way to go. Growing skills from a young age should be the focus and the Competency Based Curriculum offers a great platform for that to happen. Let's not loose sight of what we can achieve with a positive attitude. ➡️ MEF University School of Foreign Languages never starts a year without training and standardization sessions. We all love learning and always look into how we can improve our teaching skills.👩🏫 💻Our recent Effective Lesson Preparation workshop for the School of Foreign Languages team, expertly led by our CPD Coordinator Mahdis Rostamzadeh, was a true success. Her meticulous preparation (📍we give a lot of importance to how sessions are conducted at MEF SoFL) and the high-quality workshop materials ensured an engaging and impactful session. By exploring 📌forward, 📌central, and 📌backward lesson planning strategies, our educators enhanced their lesson planning skills and adopted a more standardized process that aligns student outcomes with effective teaching methods. 🔎The interactive discussions and practical insights delivered have set a new benchmark, ensuring consistent and high-impact learning experiences for all our students. 🏆Thank you very much, Mahdis! #ESL #lessonplanning #standardization #highered #MEFuniversity #successfullearning #professionaldevelopment

Promoting a healthy relationship among learners is crucial for creating a positive learning environment. The social-emotional learning (SEL) course for teachers has been enlightening. It has helped me understand the why, how, and when of implementing social-emotional learning in the classroom. I would like to thank the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development for this valuable opportunity. #SEL for Teachers #UNESCO MGIEP #SDG 4

"Experience in real classrooms in different contexts would help them develop practical skills... The paradigm of learning must also extend beyond the traditional classroom confines." Drawing from my experience as an African Travelling Teacher, I emphasize the value of real classroom contexts in developing practical skills. Let's broaden the paradigm of learning beyond traditional boundaries!
