👀 Watch Now: How Tech4Dev Team applied Computational design to construction of Resilient Shelters in South Soudan 🛖🚨 📍🗺️ In Tech4Dev's CDRS project, we focused on developing an innovative #shelter design to address critical needs identified by Medair in #SouthSudan. Our primary goal was to provide emergency shelters for communities affected by seasonal floods, offering #durable roofing solutions that innovatively use recycled materials and can be reused during reconstruction. This #collaboration between the University of Juba, Medair, and researchers from the Structural Xploration Lab, EPFL is making a meaningful contribution to the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. 🌧️ With flood incidents increasing dramatically due to #climatechange, impacting over 2 million people, and destroying 73,409 homes in 2022 alone —our collaboration is more critical than ever. Key points: · A two-year iterative process of design, testing, and prototyping with active stakeholder involvement · Distributed and tested 50 shelters in South Sudan's local communities · Developed versatile solutions that function as both #emergency and #recovery kits Results: 📌 A scale-up pilot phase is planned -seeking to strengthen the design applicable to the cyclone threat- to enhance the resilience of larger vulnerable populations. 📌 Medair, with the support of private donors, will lead this initiative to the next phase. A special thanks to all the dedicated team members of this project: Joel Kaiser, Corentin Fivet, Xavier Estrella, André Ullal, Lado Mawa Moses, Ann Marie Land, Patricia Gomez Melendez, Sarah Dunn, Markus Zorn, @Michel Lassu, @Francis Lodiong, @James Lombe, Claude-Alain Jacot 🌍 EPFL Tech4Dev is an International Cooperation Acceleration Program for Research and Innovation, answering population needs living in low resources settings, by bringing them together with actors from NGOs, International Organizations, Academia and government. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨-𝐦𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 📣🛴🚲 We're pleased to announce that our project "Integration and harmonization of advanced #micromobility networks through #connectivity to optimize and #crowdsource the micro-mobility flows in urban environments towards climate #neutrality and #digitalization" has been selected to receive funding from Sapienza Università di Roma in the context of Outreach - Call 2023. The project, proposed by Sevket Oguz Kagan CAPKIN in collaboration with CTLup (represented by Roberto Carroccia) as critical external partner in the initiative, aims at designing and developing a #digitalsolution for a fostering integration and harmonization of road users' #safety and #inclusivity. This solution will leverage #technologies to optimize the coexistence of various modes, mitigate #roadsafety risks through creating heat-maps, and streamline #urbanmobility, offering a #platform that will empower users to access, plan, and optimize while fostering an #environment that safeguards the interests of vulnerable road users. Do you know about TRAction? Instagram: @tractionplanet Website: https://lnkd.in/e-zZXZ_D Led by Melanie Kloetzel and Kevin Jesuino, TRAction brings together a diverse array of allies, professionals, scientists, volunteers, and artists who work at the intersection of art-making and climate change. 🌱 TRAction believes in the power of art to catalyze meaningful and lasting change. TRAction’s projects are guided by a set of Pillars developed in conjunction with TRAction’s Indigenous Advisory Council. TRAction envisions a future in which all species have the right to a safe and healthy environment. The team started using the CG Tools in June 2023. The Tools help in tracking their processes with relative ease. TRAction learned that the types of projects they had been exploring - often online events, networking or resource-building and -sharing - had very low carbon footprints. This realization of impact has allowed them to consider future programming, attempting to balance out and minimize live performance presentation impacts with these other, low carbon projects. We’ll be sharing about some of TRAction’s projects in future posts! #DecolonizeArt #ArtForChange #ArtsAndSustainability #GreenArts #CreativeClimateAction #ClimateJustice #ClimateAction #ArtsAndCulture #Environment #CSPA

UrbanBetter is delighted to share that Next Generation Foresight Practitioners (NGFP) have recently published the Founder and CEO of UrbanBetter, Tolullah Oni ‘s story, where she shares her journey of building UrbanBetter and the meaningful partnerships that have shaped this experience. What intentional partnerships with Next Generation Foresight Practitioners, Clean Air Fund, and Unorthodox Philanthropy have allowed for is “belief in the bigger vision” as Tolullah states. In the article, NGFP echoes this sentiment by asserting the view that young foresight practitioners are on the cutting edge when it comes to solutions for more sustainable and equitable futures. This due to their practice of thinking about futures in systematic ways brings out interesting and impactful ideas that can influence policies and drivers of change today. As UrbanBetter we could not be more honored and proud to share this story with NGFP and are humbled by the mention. We look forward to more endeavors and what the future holds for us citizen scientists!
