Voting is not just a duty, it is a privilege. And it might be one of the most important decision you make this month. I find the approach and research of @80,000 Hours a helpful way to think about it. "Could one vote — your vote — swing an entire election? Most of us abandoned this seeming fantasy not too long after we learned how elections work. But the chances are higher than you might think. If you’re in a competitive district in a competitive election, the odds that your vote will flip a national election often fall between 1 in 1 million and 1 in 10 million. That’s a very small probability, but it’s big compared to your chances of winning the lottery, and it’s big relative to the enormous impact governments can have on the world." Even if the current ones are not the national elections, the principle still holds. #UseYourVote #EUelections2024

Free and fair elections are the hallmark of democracy. That's why I'm serving as an election official in Virginia. We live in a complicated time, a changing world, and a divided country. Democracy is messy, but when the people respect the election results, it remains the world's best process for the peaceful transfer of power. Thousands of brave men and women we never met sacrificed so that we could have the freedom to vote in this country. We owe it to them to protect democracy, vote, and respect the results. After the 2020 experience, states across the country are preparing for election challenges and audits. Whatever the voters decide, let's hope candidates for office in this election respect the results. #electionsmatter #respecttheresults

Voting is a powerful way to shape our communities and future. While presidential elections often get the most attention, local and state elections are equally crucial, as they lay the groundwork for the government structures that impact our daily lives 🌍 Local and state elections involve silent transitions of power that decide key policies like education, healthcare, public safety, and housing. State judicial elections also influence how laws are applied ✅ With that, PLEASE get out to vote in the primary elections tomorrow!! Voting in EVERY election ensures our voices are heard at ALL levels of government 🗣️ Don’t wait for the next presidential race; every vote counts, and every election matters‼️ 🔸To find out what’s on your ballot, please visit here: https://lnkd.in/e2xQ5P54 🔸Need to register to vote? 🗳️Whoever you vote for, you can be confident that your vote will be counted as cast. Elections are political; election security is not. Despite the firehose of inaccurate info about election security being spread by foreign adversaries intent on weakening our country and pitting Americans against each other, the fact is that election infrastructure has never been more secure and our election officials have never been better prepared to deliver safe, secure, free, and fair elections. Despite the persistently pushed narrative and campaign of disinformation out there -- with more than 230 Republicans actively undermining faith in our election preemptively without evidence or justification (https://lnkd.in/gG8hr682 ) -- the reality is that US elections are secure and the results are accurate. Certain candidates and propaganda networks that masquerade as news continue to make baseless claims about voter fraud and election irregularities, but countless investigations and studies have determined that such issues are vanishingly and negligibly rare. This same candidate tried to push this verifiably false claim in over 60 lawsuits following the 2020 election. Not only did he lose every case, but under oath in a court of law and with the threat of perjury and/or disbarment, his legal teams failed to produce actual evidence and were much more reserved and careful about exactly what they were claiming. That propaganda network agreed to pay almost $800 million in a defamation suit for spreading lies about the integrity and security of voting machines, and now high-profile surrogates have dusted the lie off and are actively spreading it again.

As election day draws near, many of our clients are asking "What more can I do?" Here's one thing we're telling them: Commit to continue your democracy giving into 2025. Again and again we hear about democracy building groups who fear the "post election drop-off" in funding. Many will have to lay off staff in January and some will close all together. In fact, it's the time between elections when the groundwork is laid for success at the ballot box. No matter what happens in November, we're going to need these groups in 2025 and beyond. Consider signing the "Election Day to Every Day Pledge" and tell your favorite democracy-building groups they can count on your continued support well beyond Nov. 5. https://lnkd.in/dS-Q88Rc
