Problem solved! 🚀 Our customer in the pharmaceutical industry faced recurring issues with a CIP return pump, due to continuous failures of the mechanical seal with SiC/SiC seal faces. With SiC/SiC lacking self-lubricating properties, it wasn't suitable for a self-priming pump, especially in scenarios with poor lubrication during air handling. Although carbon, a better self-lubricating material, wasn't allowed, Packo stepped in to replace the problematic pump with a PRP2/32-125 featuring a Novapad mechanical seal. The new pump has been operational for over 6 months now without any seal issues. The PRP2 series is equipped with all medium contact surfaces certified to have < 0.4 µm roughness, ensuring top-notch performance. The Novapad seal, known for its formidable material and unique surface treatment, effectively reduces friction and heat generation in low-lubrication conditions. This solution not only excels in CIP return pumps where carbon isn't permitted, but also demonstrates exceptional performance during sterilization processes. Unlike SiC/SiC faces that led to vapor-lock and seal damage, the Packo Novapad seal minimizes friction, even at 3,000 rpm, preventing overheating and maintaining liquid between the seal faces.
