🎙️FinTech-Bank Talks🎙️: The 1st Podcast That is Only Read 📺Today's Episode: Why Your Customer Fit Strategy in Fintech Might Fail❌ Morning & Welcome, I am Jose Puccini, and in this episode I want to dive into a topic that’s often overlooked but is critical for the success of any fintech company: customer fit. Why is it that, even with the best strategies and intentions, your approach to customer fit can still fail? I’ll break this down with practical examples and insights, so if you're looking to refine your strategy or avoid common pitfalls, stay tuned. Let’s get started! First, let’s clarify what customer fit really means. In fintech, it’s more than just knowing who your customer is. It’s about deeply understanding their real problems, preferences, and how your solution integrates into their daily life. The problem? Many fintechs fall into the trap of assuming that one approach will work for all their customer segments. That’s where things start to go wrong. Reason 1: Underestimating Customer Diversity It’s easy to think that what works in one market or for one type of client can be replicated across others, but reality is more nuanced. What a traditional bank in Europe considers essential might not align with what a fintech startup in LATAM prioritizes. Failing to recognize and adapt to these differences can lead to underperformance, even if your solution is theoretically strong. Real example: I once saw a global payments platform try to launch an advanced AI-based feature in a market where tech adoption was still relatively low. Despite the marketing push and investment, customers just weren’t ready for it, leading the company to rethink its approach. Another common mistake is not maintaining continuous feedback from your users. I've seen fintech teams get so caught up in what they believe to be innovative that they forget to ask customers what they really need. This leads to a disconnect between what you offer and what the market actually wants. Reason 2: Prioritizing Technology Over Customer Experience Innovation is important, but if you don’t translate that technology into real, easy-to-understand value for the user, you’re setting yourself up for failure. It’s tempting to launch a product with the latest AI features, but if customers can’t see the direct benefit, adoption will stall. So, how can you avoid these failures? The answer is simple yet powerful: stay connected to your customer base, listen actively, and adapt your strategy continuously. Conclusion: Empathy is key. At the end of the day, your customer is a human being with evolving needs and expectations. Don’t be afraid to shift direction if it means better aligning with what they want. Thanks for joining me in this episode. If you found this useful or have experiences with customer fit challenges, leave me a comment or reach out. See you next time on FinTech Talks. Take care!

Join me on a deep dive into the European banking and payment ecosystem with William Lorenz! William is a fintech executive with more than 20 years of experience. He is a two-time fintech founder and spent five years in the early stages of a British banking-as-a-service provider. Similar to myself, he currently works as a fractional fintech advisor with clients in the UK, EU, and the rest of the world. I invited him to the Embedded Finance Review podcast to speak about his point of view on all things fintech infrastructure and embedded finance. We discussed: • What are the key ingredients for a successful embedded finance venture? • What do founders and leaders worry too much and not enough about when building a fintech product? • What does he look for when selecting a new banking partner? • And so much more! And today's episode is a little bit different. Besides the usual audio podcast, I have published a video version as well. So you can find the episode not only on Spotify and Apple Podcasts but also on YouTube. You can find the links in the comments. What are your thoughts about our discussion? What do you think about the video format? #embeddedfinance #embeddedbanking #embeddedlending #embeddedpayments
