With a background from MIT, where he completed his PhD in computer science, Austin brings his expertise to the Hi! PARIS community as an assistant professor of statistics. He chose to join the center for its exceptional support for interdisciplinary and fundamental #research, as well as the outstanding research environment in Paris, known to be one of the best in the world. Austin's research is centered on the #mathematicalfoundations of #AI, with a special focus on #optimaltransport. A core part of his work focuses on understanding when and how optimal transport can be effectively applied, especially in high-dimensional #data contexts, such as #imageprocessing. At the recent “AI Aspirations” summit, The White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy showcased how AI is being used to enhance services for the public. This comes as research firm Forrester found that customer experience has declined for the third year in a row across both public and private entities. I am happy to announce the publication of my latest article on the use of machine learning to predict country-level CO2 emissions. The study "Determinants of CO2 Emissions: A Machine Learning Approach" published in International Advances in Economic Research presents research that directly compares the predictive capabilities of machine learning models with traditional econometric models. Key Insights: 1️⃣ Advanced Machine Learning: Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) outperformed all other models, showcasing incredible precision with a 98% R-squared value on the test dataset. 2️⃣ Critical Variables Identified: GDP per capita and agriculture’s value-added contribution are significant determinants of per capita CO2 emissions. 3️⃣ Enhanced Predictive Power: Machine learning, particularly ANN, holds immense potential for improving our forecasting abilities, offering a robust tool for policymakers.
