Here is my creative vision of #HR and a #robot: In a mysterious forest, where light filters through dense branches, HR (#HumanResources) and a robot meet. Their meeting is extraordinary, as they represent two different worlds: the human and the technological. HR, dressed in an elegant suit with a notebook in hand, represents the human aspects of managing human resources. His task is to care for employees, resolve conflicts, recruit, and create a friendly atmosphere in the workplace. The robot, with its metal construction and flickering diodes, symbolizes technology and automation. Its task is to perform tasks efficiently, with precision and speed. They stand facing each other, looking into each other's eyes. HR tries to understand how these two worlds can be combined. The robot analyzes data, searching for optimal solutions. They start to talk together. HR speaks about the needs of employees, their dreams, and aspirations. The robot listens carefully, analyzing the data and drawing conclusions. After a long conversation, they conclude that they can collaborate. HR can use technology to automate certain processes, such as document processing or data analysis. The ILA Longshoremen want a prohibition on automation and even semi-automation of their jobs. https://lnkd.in/gvXR5kFS Reading about that demand took me back to 2010 when I brought in Boston Automation to automate part of TeamHealth's revenue cycle. We had roughly 40 employees manually retrieving parts of the patient medical record. It was repeatable and routine. It was comfort for a lot of those 40 people. So when we announced the automation initiative, I effectively offered 2 options: to learn a new skill, take a new role, and earn a higher salary or likely watch the manual labor part of the job evaporate requiring them to find a new role. We had several team members learn how to build automations (called scripts back then) and step into their new technical roles. They became #digitalworkforce managers, ensuring our bots handled the low value tasks so our valuable human resources could tackle high value, complex tasks. I'm proud to say some are still on that Team today, some 10+ years later. I'm also proud to say many of that 40 found other roles in the company to match their tolerance for change. #Automation, and now AI, is everywhere in our world today. It's exciting. It's scary. But it creates a whole new set of problems and opportunities we can tackle to create more value for ourselves, our communities, and the teams we work with. Imagine if we had no microwave and had to cook over an open fire. Imagine if your physician did not have access to a high tech imaging device. Imagine never changing.
