What does success mean, I wonder? We’ve generalised the term so much that we often equate success with money or fame. But it can mean different things to different people. For some, being successful could mean landing their dream job, while for others, it could mean earning a seven or eight-figure salary. For some, it could mean achieving work-life balance, and for others, it could mean seeing a passion project take shape just as they had planned. For me, the definition keeps changing. When I was younger, being successful meant receiving promotions every year, getting steep salary hikes, and being hired by the biggest agencies in the advertising world. As I became a seasoned professional, success meant assuming leadership roles, managing larger teams and being part of the top management that shapes the future of a company. Once I took a step back from my career and had the chance to reflect, my definition of success changed yet again. Now, I think of success as the valuable lessons I’ve learned over the years, the relationships I’ve built, and the beautiful memories I have of each organisation I’ve worked at. And right now, as I sit down with my colouring book on a Monday morning, without a care in the world for JSR meetings, client calls, or deadlines, I feel like the most successful person in the world! :) What does success mean to you? ##Success #Reflections #PersonalGrowth #MondayMorning

🎁 How's the Package? Late-night reflections often spark profound insights. Thinking back to joining LTP two years ago, I was captivated by the opportunity to explore a new industry, benefit from competitive compensation, enjoy perks like free transportation, and focus on HR, particularly in OD and L&D—areas where my interest was strong, yet experience was limited. Switching companies often feels like receiving an unopened mystery box—filled with promises and surprises. There are different types of unopened boxes we encounter in our careers. Some are wrapped in excitement, others in caution, and some evoke a blend of emotions—a roller coaster of anticipation and apprehension. Reading Carol Dweck's book on mindset has deepened my reflection on these varied unopened boxes. It amazes me to consider the fixed and growth mindsets we all possess. Embracing challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, we navigate through unexpected twists with resilience and curiosity. I may say that all opened boxes have brought forth different emotions, but I'm appreciating and almost amused by the journey and what it has made me become, as well as what it promises for my future self. Like any mystery box, the initial allure may be enticing, yet it's the surprises within that truly shape our journey. Some may bring unforeseen benefits, new learning opportunities, or challenges that catalyze personal growth. When faced with the unknown, let's embrace the mystery and uncover its treasures. You don’t get paid for your time; you get paid for what you do with your time. Picture this: you go to the office, spend the entire day doing little to nothing, underperforming, while your colleagues push themselves, achieve milestones, and strive for excellence. At the end of the day, it might seem like you all got paid equally for your time. But then comes appraisal season. One person gets a salary review, a promotion, or a well-deserved recognition award, while the other gets nothing. And soon enough, "nothing" might even mean no job, as underperformance catches up. What does this tell you? It’s not about the hours spent but how effectively you utilize those hours. Purpose in your heart this week to make the most of your time. Strive to achieve one goal after another, until your efforts truly count for something greater. One of my favorite quotes says, 'You need to live for something bigger than yourself.' I digress, but the takeaway is this: commit your time to becoming productive in the areas of your life that matter most, those areas that actually open your doors of breakthrough. A client REJECTED a promotion to Chief of Staff... That's right, offered the promotion, agreed to a trial period, then declined the promotion.   Here's why ⬇️   👏 Although the title *looked* shiny from the outside, the content of the role was not up to scratch. Core responsibilities within this particular COS role weren't as elevated as they were at first glance.   👏This client had done the clarity work to understand their strengths, passions and unique value proposition as an employee and identified that the particular COS role would in fact hold LESS growth opportunity than the Executive Business Partner role they currently held.   👏Whilst yes, this client would have received an increase in compensation in the long term this would not have benefited her career and the direction they wanted to grow.   Use my clients strategy to help YOU make the RIGHT decision for your career growth…   ✅Get clear on where you want to go next and why - just next. Not forever (p.s you're allowed to change!), just next. If you're not clear on where you what to go you'll easily get tempted by shiny object syndrome!   ✅Get clear on what work you're passionate about, your strengths and your USP (unique value proposition) as an employee. Understanding this about yourself will help you to choose a role that is best suited for you.   ✅Make a decision on next role based on what you enjoy and where your strengths would be valued but also, look for roles that will benefit your long term career growth goals.   ✅Think long term, not short term. Whilst money IS important. The euphoric feeling of securing a dream salary is temporary. Turning up and executing a role every day where you don't enjoy the content of the role, is more long term. 2024: A Year of Growth and Learning This year taught me one of the most valuable lessons in my professional journey: 👉Don’t focus solely on the salary being offered. Instead, look at the values a company provides and whether they align with your life principles. I received offers I never thought possible, but I realized something crucial: A high salary doesn’t compensate for a rude or hostile work environment with no room for growth. Thankfully, many professionals today prioritize healthy, flexible workplaces over just attractive numbers. And I’m proud to be part of this. Here’s what I’ve learned: 1. Know the value of your work and how much you bring to the table. 2. Understand the minimum a company should offer to earn your expertise—it’s not just a job; it’s the result of years of study and dedication. 🚀 My biggest takeaway from 2024? Valuing myself as a professional. I hope more people embrace this mindset too. After all, as we say in Brazil: Nenhuma empresa vale um AVC! (No company is worth your stroke.) Let’s keep striving for workplaces that respect, support, and inspire us in 2025 and beyond! 💙

A few years ago, I was having a conversation with an HR professional where I explained very excitedly how I had worked across functions. At this point, she interjected, saying, 'It is good that you have had so much exposure, but you have to finally choose a function in a few years' time.' Somehow, I did not like that idea. A few years after that, someone who was a few years ahead of me suggested that I should focus on something completely different to move up in my career. Somehow, I did not like that idea either. Because I loved going from zero to one, exploring the limits of my ability to adapt to a new situation, and learning new skills in the process. And believed that growth would happen as long as my work increased the efficiency of the organization and/or its profitability/revenue. **** There may or may not be a single well-defined career path for you. The path ahead could be more fluid than you think, and that is a good thing. Because that gives you the liberty to explore and have fun. Just focus on creating value. Ever heard the phrase “just another cog”? Yep, that’s the vibe. No Ownership: Unless you're the boss, your name isn’t going to be on that product. You won't get that legacy. It's kind of disheartening to think that you could work for years, and hardly anyone outside your circle would even know what you contributed. Questionable Impact: Often, the products we spend our time working on don’t even make people’s lives better. So, what’s the point if the work isn’t genuinely improving the world?
