Technology changes so fast. What works today might not work in a few months. The perfect solution right now will inevitably be made redundant by the next perfect solution 💡 💻 This is why it’s absolutely imperative for higher education institutions to have a strategy for designing effective learning outside of technology. So many institutions design their learning around the technology they use. This is not a sustainable strategy. When the next must-have technology becomes available, all of the learning design that has taken time and effort to implement will need to be redone to fit the new technology, which is going to cost unnecessary time and money. The solution is to design courses and programmes to be adaptable for any technology. When we do this, it becomes easy to flex across technologies as and when they are implemented. We can design the teaching and learning of courses and programmes in line with pedagogical values and principles that will not change. If we create courses that implement key pedagogical principles of learning, then they won’t need to change if the decision is made to change platforms or introduce new technological tools. All that has to be done is minor adaptation to the technology’s particular requirements. We do this with carefully designed templates that are built upon pedagogical principles rather than built around technological requirements. Did you know, research indicates if learning isn't actually applied, 75% of it is forgotten within just 6 days! From an L&D ROI perspective, this raises concerns – it implies that there is substantial loss in investment within the first week alone! My initial reaction mirrored most of yours, but going through insights shared in the article (link in the comments) provided some context. In my experience many organizations prioritize the mode of learning, i.e. digital, e-learning, gamified, often neglecting the actual real-world application & business impact. Its important we don't lose sight of the essence: Its People who run businesses, definitely not a software! (not yet 🤐 ) Therefore, as L&D professionals, it's important we don't start with the 'HOW' of learning, but the WHY & WHY NOW to ensure alignment with both organizational objectives and individual growth needs! 📢 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐎𝐮𝐭📢 Our survey was simple, respecting their time, and the results were eye-opening: Over two-thirds said they weren't lacking technology, with some even feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of tools. Surprisingly, most didn’t want more funding. Instead, 31% wanted more time to learn and implement existing tech, and 22% wanted more training and support. Combining those responses, a majority (53%) sought more support and time, not more money, which is a strong signal of their current challenges. A resounding 92% believe that, when used correctly, edtech enhances teaching and learning. The lesson here is clear: 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭, 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐓 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐞𝐬.
