Einstein Endo resident laser case du jour. The Biolase iPlus was used to enhance the cleaning and disinfection of the root canal system in this case. Laser activation was started as soon as the access was completed. We, and many others, have observed that by doing this 'coronal conditioning' step, many canals became easier to negotiate to patency. Clearly, the effects of the resulting cavitations, shock waves, shear forces, streaming, etc., etc., have a physical debridement effect within the canals.

🌪️𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬-𝐨𝐧-𝐚-𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐩🌪️ Check out this highlight from our recent publication: A video demonstrating the fascinating streaming behavior of 2 µm polystyrene beads in a microfluidic channel under an acoustic field. 🔍 Pressure-Driven Laminar Flow (Acoustics OFF): Under normal conditions, the beads move smoothly through the channel, driven by pressure-induced flow. In this state, viscous drag and inertial forces dominate, resulting in a well-ordered, laminar flow. 🔄 Acoustic Field ON – Formation of Streaming Vortices: Once we introduce an acoustic field, the dynamics change dramatically! The beads are now subject to acoustic radiation forces and acoustic streaming, which disrupt the laminar flow. Our work "Photonic Matrix Multiplier Makes a Direction-Finding Sensor" is available on arXiv. We formulated the problem of finding the direction-of-arrival of an optical beam as a nonuniform discrete Fourier transform, and we introduced a photonic integrated circuit that performs this operation and even goes beyond a discrete mapping to enable continuous tracking of the angle of arrival. Terrestrial gamma-ray flashes (TGFs) are brief bursts of gamma-rays produced in the atmosphere and occur unpredictably. Due to their elusive, short-lived nature, researchers use a high-speed imaging system to record the lightning flashes at 40,000 fps at 1280 x 448 pixel resolution while other instruments track other metrics. The Phantom camera provides researchers with an up-close look at the lightning, allowing them to match the readings from the instruments with what they observe in the high-speed videos. Researchers have gained new insight into TGFs, which benefited from the camera's high frame rates and workflow capability. EMBL’s Prevedel Group scaled down a microscope to a miniature size while scaling up imaging resolution. 🔬 Mobile OCM is the first portable microscope to image label-free samples in 3D, in different magnifications, and within fractions of a second. It was constructed to help TREC – Traversing European Coastlines – researchers immediately view biological samples in 3D that they had just gathered – a game-changing level of technology for biological field work.
