European Heat Pump Association’s Post

🚀 The IHP Prague Conference 2024 is officially underway! 🚀 The first panel, "Strategy Outlook for Large Heat Pumps," has set a high standard for insight and innovation: 🌟 Opening the event, Petr Hladík, Minister of Environment of Czech Republic, emphasized the role of industrial heat pumps in reducing emissions and advancing the nation’s climate ambitions through clean technologies. 💡 Paul Kenny, Director General of the European Heat Pump Association, highlighted the transformative potential of heat pumps in revolutionising the EU energy system. He urged policymakers to prioritise industrial heat pumps in the upcoming EU plans, noting that while Europe may have lagged behind in PV and batteries, heat pumps represent a key opportunity to lead in decarbonisation. “It’s important for industrial heat pumps to be in the centre of it”, he outlined. 💡 Michael Liebreich, Founder of BNEF and Liebreich Associates, spoke about the global acceleration of clean energy, identifying heat pumps as a critical technology for industrial electrification, also at high temperatures up to 500 degrees. He underscored the importance of grid investment and warned against over-reliance on expensive alternatives like hydrogen. 💡 Jonathan Volt, Project Officer at the European Commission Joint Research Center, shared insights on Europe’s progress toward its 2030 targets, highlighting the role of industrial heat pumps as a ready solution for decarbonisation. He pointed to EU frameworks, such as the Electrification Action Plan covering the Heat Pump Action Plan and the expanded ETS to individual boilers and transport, as pivotal in driving adoption. 💡 David JP Phillips, acclaimed speaker and author, demonstrated the power of storytelling in driving change. “The most important story is the one you tell yourself”, he said, showing how emotions like trust and empathy, combined with compelling storytelling, can inspire customers and policymakers to act on heat pumps.  With policymakers, industry leaders, and technical experts and renewable energy passionate gathered, the future of industrial heat pumps is being shaped here in Prague.
