At Elevate Indianapolis, we have 7 Core Beliefs that fuel our programs: 1 - We believe that EVERY CHILD is of great worth and has the desire and potential to succeed. 2 - We believe that LONG-TERM, 24/7 RELATIONSHIPS with caring adults have proven positive outcomes in the lives of our urban youth. 3 - We believe that a HOLISTIC approach is essential for a strong and healthy future for our youth. 4- We believe that FULL-TIME, SALARIED TEACHER-MENTORS WHO COME FROM SIMILAR BACKGROUNDS as the students can have a positive influence and make all the difference. 5- We believe that SERVANT LEADERSHIP, creating a culture of selflessness and service, is the foundation for leadership. 6- We believe in the intrinsic DIGNITY of every person and act accordingly. 7- We believe that COLLABORATION yields the best long-term results, acknowledging that the complex work in our urban centers cannot be done single handedly. https://lnkd.in/gA_d9P8R

Transformation Begins with #Empowerment 🙌⬇️ Our innovative initiative is designed to educate and train our tenants, equipping them with vital skills to thrive as successful tenants and active members of the community: 🏡 Extra Measure Property Management - Our staff visit each and every home weekly to dialogue with our tenants and ensure that homes are well maintained. 🏡 Hire from Within - Over 45% of our staff are former tenants or other consumer leaders. We also hire tenants as paid interns to help carry out many of the administrative, property management, and public education duties. These employees are role models to all of Housing Unlimited’s tenants. 🏡 Tenants Council - The Tenants Council is an elected body of tenants that meets regularly to socialize and discuss common issues. Activities include conveying tenant concerns to staff and planning education and social programs where individuals cultivate friendships and camaraderie. The Council helps residents learn civic engagement and leadership skills. #AffordableHousing #CommunityBuilding

It's always difficult to hear about colleagues and friends struggling at work, a situation that seems increasingly common, especially in the education sector. Teachers face growing pressures to perform while managing numerous tasks at work, even before considering their personal lives. To provide the best education for our children, educators need to be in a positive place both mentally and physically. They must feel supported by their colleagues and valued by their leadership. Many teachers inherently take on extra responsibilities because they genuinely want to help others. However, leaders must recognise that goodwill has its limits. The staff members who go the extra mile set the standard for their peers and encourage others to step up. While prioritising children's needs in decision-making in schools is crucial, what if staff well-being was also at the heart of leadership decisions? Wouldn't staff reciprocate by focusing more on pupil well-being and doing what is best for them? In a rapidly changing world, businesses and communication are evolving quickly, yet schools often lag behind. When I joined Danes Hill, I was disillusioned and uncertain about continuing my teaching career. A year later, I've rediscovered my love for education and am able to pursue my passion for supporting staff well-being. Fortunately, our leadership values open discussions and genuinely listens to staff. It's an exciting time to be part of this school, and I eagerly look forward to starting my second year in September.

“Dismantling DEI offices should not be the solution. Rather, to the extent possible under the law, college leadership should attend to creating and maintaining diversity-centered institutional structures (e.g., DEI offices and leadership) that promote the institution’s mission and goals. Fundamentally, I assert that it is imperative that institutions of higher education maintain and further support diversity programs and initiatives through an organizational structural commitment. This includes support for the leaders charged with developing and maintaining DEI initiatives.” https://lnkd.in/eeKZHcXp

Check out my latest interview on Road Trip Nation!
Dr. James Lane was recently interviewed by RoadtripNation about his 'road through life', including his roles as teacher, principal, superintendent, and now as CEO of PDK International. "The advice I'd give anyone who wants to get into leadership is to build relationships with a lot of friends. Leadership is collaborative and we need to work together to create the greatest impact. Networking and building relationships are also great ways to open up doors to opportunity." https://lnkd.in/eVSrKtK6

Imagine this: A teacher is juggling day-to-day instruction, managing a growing caseload, running IEP meetings, and advocating for students—all at once, essentially acting as teacher and case manager. This is the reality for many special education teachers. As a former special education teacher, I know what it’s like to feel stretched thin, trying to do it all while ensuring every student receives what they need to succeed. Here’s where YOU come in as a principal: Your leadership sets the tone. By creating systems of support and fostering collaboration, you can reduce this overwhelm and empower your teachers to focus on what truly matters—teaching and supporting students. Start by: ✅ Checking in regularly with your special education teachers ✅ Asking what barriers they face and how you can help ✅ Recognizing their work and celebrating wins Your support isn’t just nice—it’s necessary for their success. Tag a principal or leader you admire who supports their special education teachers like this!

The more institutions provide experiences and partnerships beyond the classroom, the more students can move directly into their career path prepared for civic leadership and the workforce. Excelencia in Education brings national attention to seven programs connecting Latino, and other, students to careers with the understanding that what serves them ultimately serves our country. #GrowingExamples Discover these programs and more in our new compilation, "Advancing What Works to Intentionally Serve Latino Students: Opportunities for Action — 2024" → https://bit.ly/3JfHUX0

As San Antonio continues to grow at an incredible pace, we must not overlook the challenges within our education system. Through my participation in the Master Leadership Program Class of 21, I’ve had the opportunity to gain deeper exposure to the struggles faced by students, parents, and educators alike. The gaps in resources and support are real, and we have to do better. Our city’s future success depends on how well we address these issues. Programs like St. Philip’s College Culinary Arts students and restaurant, and Southwest Legacy High School’s arts-focused initiatives show how investing in education can shape the future workforce and elevate our community. But we need more. We must ensure that students are not only equipped to succeed in high school and college but also prepared for careers beyond. To continue thriving as one of the fastest-growing cities, public education must be a priority for our elected officials from school trustees to state representatives and senators. It’s essential that we vote for leaders who are committed to supporting students, educators, and parents. Only then can we truly build a future where every student has the opportunity to succeed beyond the classroom.
