On June 3rd, 2024, the Safe Passing Law will make fake bike lanes like this one irrelevant. On the start of Spring GoByBikeBC Week, motorists MUST give vulnerable road users 1 meter of clearance in 50 Km/h or less zones and 1.5 meters in zones with higher speed limits. The 0.5 meter clearance ONLY applies when there is a Separated and Protected bike lane or proper sidewalk. This should really confuse the massive number of drivers who currently only understand a fraction of the rules of the road.

Undoubtedly, more and more people will switch their commuting habits to micro-mobility if appropriate infrastructure and lanes are installed; this 'hardware' is on the government. Another thing is the system’s 'software', or how the cycling culture will develop. The idea is that travelling by bike is not just getting from A to B but making a relaxed and pleasant journey by attending places, shopping and socialising. If we embrace this attitude, it’ll bring a whole new experience of how we move around. Streets will become beautiful. Really? #habitchanging, #micromobility, #cityplanning

Are you planning a holiday getaway? 🏖️ Traveling comes with its own set of stress and headaches. Itineraries, fellow travelers, and being away from home will push your buttons and wear you down, even on vacation. The last thing you need is the added stress of worrying about the safety of your home. Keep your home safe and secure with these essential tips: 1️. Smart Security: Use smart systems like #Control4 to monitor and control your home remotely. Set up cameras and set-up lighting routines that mimic a standard daily schedule with smart lighting routines to make it look like you’re home. 2️. Don’t Advertise your absence: Avoid posting travel plans on social media. Avoid creating unsafe scenarios that will alert others that your house is empty. Ask your neighbors or a family member to pick up mail and packages. If you will be gone for an extended period, ask them to care for home maintenance. 3️. Backup Power: A generator keeps security active even during power outages. 4️. Pre-Trip Check: Make small repairs, replace bulbs, and check smoke detectors. I spoke with a client last week who was preparing for a trip and we had a chance to go over some ways to keep his home safe when he’s away. I thought this information might be helpful to you in case travel is on your agenda! -Set timers. Setting timers on indoor lights is a great way to give the impression someone is home, therefore discouraging anyone thinking of making your house a target. -Turn off water. I have had countless clients whose pipes have frozen and/or burst while they were out of town. This can cause extensive damage to your home and is easily avoidable by turning off the water main when you are away. -Hold mail and newspaper. Nothing screams “no one’s home” like a pile of newspapers or mail spilling out of the mailbox. Be sure to fill out the appropriate online forms to hold your mail and paper while on vacation or have a neighbor pick it up daily. -Let your alarm company know when you will be gone. If you have an alarm system, it’s a good idea to let them know you will be out of town. They will be less likely to dismiss a call or alert if they are aware of your absence. Travel well! #TravelGal #traveltips #thorntonhalltravel
