A while ago, we posted a guide about the EU CO2 reduction target goals for vehicles. In it, we wrote about the European Commission revising regulations for trucks to further curb emissions. We are very glad that on Wednesday, the EU Parliament adopted these new measures 🙌 . This means that CO2 emissions from large trucks will have to be reduced by 45% before 2030, 65% before 2035, and 90% by 2040. Europe accelerates towards #Electromobility! End of CO2 emissions for #UrbanBuses!‼️ The European Parliament 🇪🇺 has taken (April 10, 2024) a significant step by approving ambitious new #CO2 #emission #reduction targets for heavy-duty vehicles. In turn, the agreed text extends its scope to almost all new heavy-duty vehicles with certified CO2 emissions (including small trucks, urban buses, coaches and trailers). The new regulation raises the CO2 reduction targets for heavy-duty vehicles, setting an increase from 30% to 45% in 2030, 65% in 2035, and reaching 90% in 2040. But the target set for urban buses is much more ambitious, with a goal of a 100% reduction by 2035, and an intermediate target of 90% by 2030. 📉 🌫️ These measures imply the need to increase, even more, the investment and technological development effort that is already being made by the #EV manufacturing brands, shippers, as well as all the actors involved in land transport in its decarbonization process until 2040. Something indicated by #ANFAC (Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers) in line with the European employers' association #ACEA, which in turn have called for the continuity of public aid for the electrification of heavy and bus fleets. In turn, the #Regulation will be reviewed in 2027, one year earlier than planned. But this time, there will be no annual monitoring and no solid connection to the #conditions needed for #ChargingInfrastructure 🚏🔌😂and alternative fuels ⛽🛢️. In other words, manufacturers must reach certain targets, but there is no guarantee that the conditions to achieve them will be available. In this review, the #Commission will also assess how the carbon correction factor affects the transition to #zero-emission vehicles in heavy-duty transport. In addition, a way to assess vehicles using #CO2-neutral fuels will be considered. All these decisions are undoubtedly a #firm #betting towards a future based on #Electromobility that seeks to accelerate the #decarbonization of land transport in decarbonization of road transport in the European Union by 2040. Very exciting to see that the European Council has officially adopted the regulation on CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles. It is a significant step forward in the commitment to combatting climate change and fostering sustainable mobility. Included are new targets for medium and heavy lorries: 45% emissions reduction from 2030 (increased from 30%) 65% emissions reduction from 2035 90% emissions reduction from 2040 Additionally, there is a 100% zero emission target for new urban buses by 2035. On 10 April, the European Parliament will vote on the regulation on CO2 standard for #HDVs. ✍ In support of its approval, AVERE has co-signed a letter with other transport organisations and industry stakeholders. 🚛 What will this piece of legislation mean? Mainly, more uptake of clean trucks!
