✨📣News in the Transport Sector! 📣✨ 🗓 10th April 2024 marked a significant milestone as the European Parliament endorsed the provisional agreement on the new Regulation on CO2 Emission Standards for Heavy-Duty vehicles. This move reflects a crucial step towards decarbonizing the transport sector and combating climate change. The new regulation broadens its reach to encompass nearly all new heavy-duty vehicles, aiming to achieve ambitious CO2 emission reduction targets: 🎯-45% by 2030 🎯-65% by 2035 🎯-90% by 2040 🚛Under these regulations, truck manufacturers will be compelled to meet increasingly stringent average emissions reduction thresholds by prioritizing the sale of zero-emission trucks and buses. These vehicles will run on batteries, fuel cells, or hydrogen combustion engines. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗢𝟮 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀 The European Council has approved stricter standards to reduce CO2 emissions from heavy goods vehicles. The new rules include targets for a 45% emissions reduction by 2030, a 65% reduction by 2035, and a 90% reduction by 2040. In addition, all new city buses must be zero-emission by 2035. These changes are part of the EU's efforts to meet its climate goals and reduce emissions from road transport. The stricter standards will increase the share of zero-emission vehicles in the heavy goods vehicle fleet and encourage innovation in the sector. The amended regulations help the EU reach its goals of becoming climate neutral by 2050 and reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 when compared to 1990 levels. Details: 🔸 A wider range of vehicle types will be subject to emissions reduction targets. 🔸 Targets are increasing significantly after 2025. 🔸 There is a zero-emission target for city buses. 🔸 The standards will be reviewed in 2027. Europe - Heavy-duty vehicles: Council signs off on stricter CO2 emission standards The Council has formally adopted the regulation on CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles, amending and strengthening the existing EU rules. The updated rules will further reduce CO2 emissions from road transport and will introduce new targets for 2030, 2035 and 2040. Broader scope - Under the revised rules, the scope of the existing regulation will be expanded to make almost all new heavy-duty vehicles with certified CO2 emissions – including smaller trucks, urban buses, coaches and trailers – subject to emission reduction targets. New emission reduction targets - The new rules maintain the existing 2025 target currently set at a 15% emissions reduction for heavy lorries weighing over 16t. In line with the EU’s climate objectives for 2030 and beyond, the regulation further establishes the following new targets: - 45% emissions reduction from 2030 (increased from 30%) - 65% emissions reduction from 2035 - 90% emissions reduction from 2040 These targets will apply to medium lorries, heavy trucks weighing over 7.5t and coaches, as well as to corresponding vocational vehicles from 2035 onwards. Zero-emission target for urban buses - The new rules introduce a 100% zero-emission target for new urban buses by 2035, with an intermediate target of 90% for this category by 2030. Inter-urban buses will be exempt from this target, as they will be regarded as coaches for the purposes of measuring emissions reduction. https://lnkd.in/gunWenZz

A while ago, we posted a guide about the EU CO2 reduction target goals for vehicles. In it, we wrote about the European Commission revising regulations for trucks to further curb emissions. We are very glad that on Wednesday, the EU Parliament adopted these new measures 🙌 . This means that CO2 emissions from large trucks will have to be reduced by 45% before 2030, 65% before 2035, and 90% by 2040. We are now one step closer to net-zero ⚡ If you want get quick overview of the regulations, check out our guide! Europe accelerates towards #Electromobility! End of CO2 emissions for #UrbanBuses!‼️ The European Parliament 🇪🇺 has taken (April 10, 2024) a significant step by approving ambitious new #CO2 #emission #reduction targets for heavy-duty vehicles. In turn, the agreed text extends its scope to almost all new heavy-duty vehicles with certified CO2 emissions (including small trucks, urban buses, coaches and trailers). The new regulation raises the CO2 reduction targets for heavy-duty vehicles, setting an increase from 30% to 45% in 2030, 65% in 2035, and reaching 90% in 2040. But the target set for urban buses is much more ambitious, with a goal of a 100% reduction by 2035, and an intermediate target of 90% by 2030. 📉 🌫️ These measures imply the need to increase, even more, the investment and technological development effort that is already being made by the #EV manufacturing brands, shippers, as well as all the actors involved in land transport in its decarbonization process until 2040. Something indicated by #ANFAC (Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers) in line with the European employers' association #ACEA, which in turn have called for the continuity of public aid for the electrification of heavy and bus fleets. In turn, the #Regulation will be reviewed in 2027, one year earlier than planned. But this time, there will be no annual monitoring and no solid connection to the #conditions needed for #ChargingInfrastructure 🚏🔌😂and alternative fuels ⛽🛢️. In other words, manufacturers must reach certain targets, but there is no guarantee that the conditions to achieve them will be available. In this review, the #Commission will also assess how the carbon correction factor affects the transition to #zero-emission vehicles in heavy-duty transport. In addition, a way to assess vehicles using #CO2-neutral fuels will be considered. All these decisions are undoubtedly a #firm #betting towards a future based on #Electromobility that seeks to accelerate the #decarbonization of land transport in decarbonization of road transport in the European Union by 2040. Make way for #GreenMobility 🌿🚌 ‼️
