During the panel moderated by Maria Tadeo, President Jakov Milatovic of Montenegro emphasized that Montenegro is leading the way toward EU membership and urged that "Now is the time to seize this momentum." Conversely, Serbia's President Aleksandar Vučić voiced skepticism about the timeline, stating, "I don’t believe any of us will join the EU before 2030. The EU must be ready for us." Ivan Krastev then emphasized the Western Balkans' strategic role in European consolidation, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges on their path to EU integration. Protocol Chronicles- 112 9th May European Union Day. The European Union (EU) is a supranational political and economic union of 27member states. The Constitutional Treaty sets 9th May as Europe Day in memory of the Declaration made by the French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman, on 9th May 1950, which is conventionally seen as the date on which the building of Europe began. Europe Day held on 9th May every year to celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historic 'Schuman declaration' that set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe's nations unthinkable. The celebration of 9th May is not just the celebration of the founding document of European integration,it also provides an opportunity to reflect on the current and real situation which changes daily. It celebrates the realities of life in a European Union based on the principles of the rule of law, a Union that possesses a democratic order founded on popular sovereignty and on values that are now accepted and shared by the vast majority of European people. As a celebration in Mumbai iconic building of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was illuminated in colours of European flag. Happy Europe Day! 🇪🇺 On #EuropeDay we celebrate peace and unity in Europe. Today marks the anniversary of the historic 'Schuman Declaration' that set out the idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe. #DoYouKnow 🇧🇪 Brussels is often referred to as Europe's capital? Brussels hosts headquarters of several key European institutions, including the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, and the European Parliament. This Europe Day is even more special for us, as Belgium currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU! We take pride in Europe's cultural diversity. European cooperation is the only way forward to tackle the major challenges we are facing. 📌 Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium | Delegation of the European Union to India | European Commission | Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024 | European Parliament | European External Action Service

Lots of interest in the conference on disinformation and Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), organized by the EU Delegation 🇪🇺together with the Embassies of Poland🇵🇱 USA 🇺🇸 UK🇬🇧 and Ukraine🇺🇦 . Thanks to Legislatura de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires for hosting us, and to Marcia Levaggi, Aude Maio-Coliche and Carme Colomina Saló (amongst others) for the excellent and inspiring contributions. Coordination and exchanges of best practices amongst democratic allies are essential if we want to be able to defend ourselves against orchestrated and malign disinformation campaigns aimed at destabilizing our diverse and open societies. https://lnkd.in/dWhFumds

** The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg takes the reins at the Council of Europe ** Luxembourg has officially begun its six-month presidency of the Council of Europe’s committee of ministers, marking Luxembourg’s fifth time holding this position and this time taking over the office from Lithuania. This term carries particular significance, as it aligns with the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe—an entity aiming to promote democracy, human rights, and rule of law across its member states (including, through the operation of the European Court of Human Rights as its best-known body). Luxembourg’s leadership at the top of the Council of Europe will focus on a number of pressing and forward-looking priorities including the support of peace initiatives in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Kosovo—regions referred to as “powder kegs” by the Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Xavier Bettel, highlighting the fragile nature of peace and security. Furthermore, Luxembourg priorities span over an aspiration to promote the rule of law and culture, as well as to increase the visibility of the Council of Europe. By organizing and chairing the discussions and meetings at the Council of Europe, Luxembourg now has the opportunity to promote European values on an international scale and further enhance its own diplomatic standing. For Luxembourg, this presidency represents not only a chance to shape European policy in selected focus areas but also to champion the ideals of peace, unity, and cultural integrity. #LuxembourgPresidency #CouncilOfEurope2024 #EuropeanUnity #PromotingPeace
