🔎 Did you know that youth aged 11-24 often face an average of three or more mental health diagnoses at once? These overlapping conditions can deeply affect their emotional, physical, and social well-being, and lead to long-term consequences. Yet, despite the urgent need for targeted interventions, many young people are overlooked in research and innovation efforts. The CALM study, part of OBI’s Integrated Discovery Programs, is bridging this gap head-on. By focusing on early detection and the development of precision interventions, CALM aims to reshape mental health care for youth with multiple conditions. Grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), CALM’s approach is designed to improve the quality of life for young people as they transition from adolescence into adulthood. Although CALM is one of OBI's newest initiatives, it has already made significant strides. This past May, the CALM Summit brought together youth partners, clinicians, researchers, and community organizations to collaborate on new solutions. As Aidan Mohamed, a member of the Youth Advisory Group at CALM, shared: "The summit was an incredible experience — for the first time, I felt like part of the research team, not just a patient." Sharon Grocott, CEO of Wayahead - Mental Health Association NSW and myself presented 'Uniting community voices to combat stigma', at the recent Mental Ill-health Stigma Researchers Australia Symposium. A part of our presentation was Insights and key recommendations for Stigma and Discrimination Education & Training from our scoping project. It is to be acknowledged that the base-line for this part of the project was (Morgan, A. Wright, J. Reavley, N. (2020) Reducing Stigma and Discrimination Targeted Consultations: Review of existing Australian stigma and discrimination initiatives and evidence, University of Melbourne Key insights and recommendation are: - Address intersectional stigma - Expand Lived Experience contact-based education - Build an evidence base of what works - Develop a nationally coordinated strategy to reduce fragmentation with system level education - Co-design of programs incorporating diverse lived-experience - Develop tailored programs for specific groups - Improve consistency and uptake of education and training for front line professionals - Embed peer workers into the delivery of training. Key messages EFPA working group on Community Psychology´s symposium at the 33rd International Congress of #Psychology, 25th July 2024: 📌 CP addresses the complex relationship between individuals and their communities, focusing on multiple levels of analysis (personal, interpersonal, community), giving voice to their needs to tackle community social challenges and promote #socialinclusion and #wellbeing. 👥 CP seeks to prevent or reduce negative #mentalhealth consequences by working collaboratively with individuals in their everyday contexts, facilitating their competence to bring about social change. 📑 Psychologists can play a proactive role in shaping legislation by anticipating social policies, critical examining existing laws, disseminating their insights, and monitoring the implementation of policies. 🛠 Continued training for psychologists is key. 💡 Collaborative methodologies are essential for interventions in living contexts, requiring a systemic vision to support community health promotion through innovative responses. #ICP2024

Research findings in the fields of clinical and sport psychology discuss the need for increased resources and education on mental health for atheltic coaches at all levels. The perspectives and voices of coaches, administrators, sports performance consultants, and mental health professionals are all necessary in helping provide access. The Hidden Opponent is continuously putting in the work to improve the experiences of athletes and develop resources where possible.
