Thank you #LinkedInNewsMiddleEast for inviting me to share my perspective on this critical topic. As a healthcare quality professional with good years of experiencein the feild, I believe #sustainability must be a new 𝗦 to be considered in healthcare quality dimensions ,𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗘𝗣 , to align with the global action to tackle climate change. Below are challenges we face currently in healthcare sector with some advices to enhance our practices .   𝟭. 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.  Many healthcare professionals may not be fully aware of the long-term environmental impacts of their practices on climate change, and how eco-friendly practices can benefit not only the environment but also improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and enhance overall operational efficiency. To elevate awareness among healthcare professionals, we need "green champions" equipped with green skills and knowledge to disseminate awareness about sustainability. 𝟮. 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀  Despite there are some environmental metrics in healthcare organizations to monitor radiation levels, waste management, and energy consumption, there is currently no comprehensive framework to help integrate sustainability into operations. To mitigate this challenge, it is essential to develop sustainability standards and strict protocols aimed at decarbonizing practices and promoting environmentally friendly alternatives. 𝟯. 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁  Leadership plays a crucial role in driving sustainability initiatives. Without buy-in from executives and board members, these efforts may not receive the necessary resources or priority. To tackle this challenge, sustainability must be integrated into the organization's overall strategy and priorities. By addressing these challenges, the healthcare sector can take significant steps to integrate sustainability principles into healthcare practices, and contribute to the global efforts to combat climate change. I am excited to share the launch of our second standalone sustainability report showcasing our commitment to a healthier world. 😀   This report isn't just some checkbox exercise—it's a testament to the responsibility we hold as one of the world's largest healthcare networks to make healthcare better in every way. That means caring for the greater good for our patients, our people, the public, and of course, our only home - our planet. You know what's more satisfying than finally finishing, getting this report approved and published? The optimism I personally feel when I kick back, take a good look at it, and realize just how much ground we've covered in such a short span. What we have achieved in such a short time wouldn't have been possible without the full support from our board and leadership. As Group Sustainability, we can not thank enough the assigned executive leads who have remained steadfast in their commitment to our goals and who've stood by our side and at times even sweated it out alongside us during the development of this report. Our markets are of course the absolute champions making it all happen: working hard to make sure we're empowering our patients and providing better care, bringing out the best in our people , building healthier communities, and of course, taking care of our planet along the way.
